Now I just need to build a 572ci to go under these heads graemlins/clonk.gif
airrj Jan 13th, 04, 4:56 PM I work on a set of Dart Big Chief Ovals. Those are reallly cool heads. You can just about put your hand down the intake ports. graemlins/thumbsup.gif graemlins/thumbsup.gif
mc71454 Jan 13th, 04, 4:59 PM I already ran those..didn't want to make the other street cars feel bad running 9's, so I took them off.... :D
BillsCamino Jan 13th, 04, 5:33 PM Reminds me of the old 427 "tunnel port" Ford FE heads... ;)
Texas70 Jan 13th, 04, 5:33 PM Wonderful, they look just like my "781"'s :D

SILVERSS454 Jan 13th, 04, 10:04 PM Wow!
Kinda reminds me of Pontiac Ram Air IV heads!
Amazing.
Rumblin70SS Jan 13th, 04, 10:09 PM It's interesting it has an 2.450 intake valve and 'only' a 1.860 exhaust valve.........
pdq67 Jan 13th, 04, 10:12 PM Yes on the Ford T/P heads and I think Pontiac may have made the same type head for the little T/A 303, or was it one for Ford's early 5.0 T/A motor??
FUNNY, but do you notice the word "OVAL" b/c I always figured that ovals would run better then both rects. and rovals when even at the same port cc size due to the smoother more rounded port shape, so it must be so or the new big head woulda been a rect. port design, imho!!!
pdq67!!!
fourfiddyfour Jan 13th, 04, 11:20 PM  those are some wicked flow numbers. How long would the springs last on the street with .900" lift?
Pontiac did make a tunnel port head with the pushrods going right down through the center of the intake port. They were the Ram Air V's. PDQ called it. The T/A 303 intended for scca racing. It didn't work very well.
There was also RA V 400's that were inteded to be an option on the '69 GTO as a drag racing engine. That didn't materialize and about 80 or so might have been crated up and sold to private buyers.

The pushrod actually passed thru the port on the intake manifold. Ports were nearly round...2.17" X 2.34" with a 2.25" valve.

BillsCamino Jan 14th, 04, 12:22 AM More BBC oval port heads available ...

RE: Ford FE tunnel port heads. I remember at the '67 Nationals (my first), Ford had some '67 tunnel port 427 Fairlanes there in SS/C class. Bill Jenkins kicked their butts in SS/C with his 396-375 Camaro and went on to win SS Eliminator. The tunnel ports were probably TOO big.
Mike Feudo Jan 14th, 04, 8:58 AM Actually they finally figured the the medium riser was the best of all the race FE heads except the cammer stuff.
travis g Jan 14th, 04, 9:02 AM Finally something that will support the .900 lift cam in my car   :D
Bobalos Jan 14th, 04, 10:03 AM if im not mistaken with those heads you have to run all the valve train stuff that you would on a set of Big Cheifs, which just means BIG $$$ parts. Its not a bad thing, but something to consider.

CDN SS Jan 14th, 04, 10:33 AM Your right , these are Big Duke type heads and pbly will need the correct valve train , I just thought interesting to post the info as I had been on phone with Brodix getting advice on intakes for my BB-O heads and rep got into new Oval port head just released for serious BBC with bores over 4.50 had an interresting discussion on the intakes and heads GM installs on their 572 crate motor FWIW and the dyno results of different intakes with the BBO head.

CDN SS Jan 14th, 04, 10:45 AM Geez not sure what I did but pls delete last two repeated posts

I just thought interesting to post the info as No doubt about it, awesome numbers, from an "oval port head". the parts that are coming out now are making it easier & easier to make very nice HP numbers.
