: Howling Resonance

Ok,

I have a high pitched howling whining noise that occurs when I have even the slightest load on the drivetrain above 30 mph, it goes away immediately when costing, I barely touch the gas pedal again and it comes right back. on - off - on - off with the gas pedal.

It sounds like a bearing whine but the pitch does not change even around relatively tight highway curves.

I grab onto a section of the cage and it seems like it is a Resonance within the hollow tubes of the cage. This is not a new noise, it has been going on since last year and it hasn't changed through a couple of gear swaps.

I need some fresh thoughts on this before I go changing rear axle bearings.

Tom...just a thought...pinion or carrier bearing?
The clue to me was that it disappears when coasting.
Axle bearing wouldn't do that.

Pinion bearing or drive side of gear.

Oh by the way, I can tell you that its not the axels. I have New Axels and bearings. I was think maybe the pinion or carrier bearing myself

Tom ,could it be the ring gear teeth starting to lay over with new traction compound at lvd?????? Just my thoughts!

Who is a good source for Timken Bearings?

It started immediately after the gear swap...could be as simple as incorrect set-up.
Not knocking your ability in any sense, but it happens to the best.
I`d check the pattern on the gears and double check everything.
