Ok where is the best place to get the correct battery for my 69 convertible?
Is this the place? And is it the correct battery?
I want a acid free battery.

Or am I better off using a tar topper? (http://www.tartopper.com/)

I used these guys and got a beautiful, correct battery. For an additional $12, they date stamped it. Battery has some sort of gelled material that will not come out. No problems so far, have had it one year.

R59 is the correct battery group number for a '69. A tar top isn't correct. Some earlier model years used a tar top.

My 69 Malibu shows an R69 on the build sheet. Most build sheets for 69 that I have seen show an R59 battery. I do not know the difference.

My build sheet also shows a 63 amp alternator that I have yet to find a number for or an actual alternator. The original was replaced before I bought the car.

These folks will take care of your needs, I got mine from them. I suggest you get the maintenance free instead if the lead acid. It's worth the extra money.

Woj.RPO K85 (63 amp) is shown in the AIM as #1100847 w/o AC and #1100846 w/AC

Dale,

Thanks for the info. I'll tuck those numbers away.

THAT SAME R59 MAIN FREE BATTERY IS SOLD ON EBAY BY AXION BATTERY/FORMERLY NEWCASTLE RESTO BATTERY MFG OUT OF PA. FOR $229.00 SO CHEKC IT OUT.

OPPS SORRY ABOUT CAPS.

My friend has one of these newer repop maint free delco batteries in his #'s matching GTO and its worked fine for 2 seasons thus far.

All the new gen repop maint free batteries use the same new low acid /gel cell typ tech ,they are also significantly lighter weight then the older lead acid design batteries too.

When i removed my 7 yr old tired lead acid R59 repop i got from from newcastle battery in 2001 it felt a lot heavier then the new maint free low acid gel cell r59 repop, thats for sure.

Time will tell when i get my bbc/396 all heat soaked on a 95deg f day to se how this repop r59 will do afteri shut it down to fuel up and then restart 5 mins later, that will be the untimate test for it IMHO.

That new repo R59 maint free battery seems so light i am concerned it may not have enough plates/AMPS/umph to spin my mild cam'd 9:8+ comp bbc over well enough when real hot.

You know, the old RUR RUR RUR as the fan blades slowly go by 1 at a time even with a new hi trq starter & heat shield & new alt. But a weak battery may be casuing the hot start issue which is what the new gen R59 repop battery still has to prove to me that it has what it takes to start a heat soaked fairly high compression mild cam'd BBC/GM V8.

We have all been thee one time or another over the yrs when owning a chevy/Pontiac/Olds/Caddy V8 over the yrs. (LOL!!!!)

The newer gen r59 has worked ok in my freind's GTO so far but he starts it up cold, gases up 2 mins down the road so no heat soak yet, goes to carshow, car sits for hrs cooling off, then fires it up to come home so the motor/starter is never really heat soaked to really load /test that new R59 mant free batteries cranking power out in a heat soak situation but time will tell this summer for my car.

BTW,i have never seen any ref to an R69 delco battery anywhere so maybe it's a typo , but now whct there is a fluke R69 opt battery of some kind .(LOL!!!)

Question about the Delco Eye.
As I remember years ago the eye was lit up Green when the battery was charged and good.
On the new R59 its just clear so are you guys painting the bottom of the clear with some green paint to luminate the green as a good battery ???
