I'm never going to find the time to finish my basement myself so i'm considering having it done. Anyone use the Owens system?

It's a lot more expensive than firring strips and foam insulation.

A guy I work with just had his done. Just act like you cant afford their price, and they will drop it drastically.

If they dropped it 22 grand then what did they want? I did my basement myself with top quality materials for a lot less than 22 grand. I did receive info from them before I did mine and I thought ( at least in their broshures ) that their wall systems looked kinda cheap. They almost had a trailer look to them JMO.

I've seen the comercials. It looks really cool. I bet they make it look easy though! I like the fact that you cam pop off individual panels to gain access to water services etc.

Jezzzz H....... Its just 4x8 sheets or so. What is the cost per panel...? I too have seen it on tv. Looks cool, but never dreamed it was that much. Ouch....

I used std 2x4 framing and drywall inside the poured conc exterior walls. Insulated with FG insulation between studs above grade. Low cost and looks good. Followed that with suspended acoustical ceiling and direct glue down carpet on conc floor.

Well I ended up with almost 4k sq foot house. I didn't have to really worry too much if it got wet. I think the cost was almost $300 per panel if not a little more. They also put in a drop ceiling, 6 doors, CATV, PHONE, and electrical outlets. Also had recessed lighting put in throughout. But the best thing was I just sat back and watched then got an extra 80 grand out of my house (in addition to what I could sell it for with it being unfinished) when I sold it 1 year later ;)

The panels are very nice high quality units akin to the offce cubicle walls..hard to explain but sure looks expensive. Not sure if you can compare it to sheet rock.

I'm gonna finish my basement next year, and I'm gonna do all the work (just sheetrock, drop ceiling, carpet). I'm also going to change the heater out. Figure it will cost me about 12000.00 to do it. But, I'm moving a lallycolum (sp?) which is going to cost 5000.00 alone - damn thing is smack in the middle of the basement and ruins the whole thing if left as is IMO.

I talked to the guy at work that had it done. He said they originally wanted $34000 to do the work and he signed on the dotted line. He said he couldnt sleep that nite thinkin about all that money and canceled the next day. (You have a couple days to cancel, I guess). Well, the sales people kept dropping the price and finally they came down to $15300!! Obviously, they really shoot high and see if you will bite!!
Anyway, he had it done and says its great. Very professional installation and the basement is now very warm and quiet.

I laugh when I see a benefit is access to your foundation walls.

I have never needed access to my foundation walls, and if I did, it would probably need a reconstruction of that panel area anyway. I'll pass and drywall it. Looks more finished that way I think.

From what I've been reading it is expensive and the price is very negotiable. Still not sure which way i'm going to go. I just don't have the time but don't want to spend 20k to finish my basement. Also I'm worried about my taxes going up.They are already outrageous.I may slowing do a 'partial finish' myself to avoid the tax man.
