Help! I have a 396 that I would like to get rebuilt, and I really am not sure where I should be taking it, or who I can trust to do a good job with it. Anyone know of some shops in the Southern NJ area that are good with Chevy Big Blocks? Im not looking to make my motor super crazy, just looking for basic rebuild service, maybe with some light mods to gain some extra power-from someone with a good reputation in the area.
Thanks,
J

I believe Pat Musi is in new jersey. Now thats a reputable builder, if he can make 1000+ hp motors live on the street he should be able to set you up. I have a Musi crate 355 from 9 years ago makes 350 hp never a problem, and I believe it only cost me $1250 for the short block with p&p heads.

I'll second Pat Musi. He did the 454 in my Chevelle, and did a great job. I think he's more Central Jersey, about exit 7 or 8 off the Turnpike.

There is a place in Vineland that does 396's. I have heard them recommended by a few others in this area. I personally don't have any experience with them since I build my own engines, but here is the info:
Doug's Automotive Machine Shop
W 139 Landis Ave
Vineland, NJ 08360

They just did a 396 for a buddy of mine that is building a 67 SS ragtop.
