I was wondering what motors came with "Pink" Rods, and how to ID them. I thought I read that they were LT1 rods. I picked up a 350 out of the paper, and according to www.mortec.com (http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm) the heads (Casting #3973487) are from a 70-71 LT1. I don't have the block casting #'s as it is in the machine shop, but they told me it was a "high nickel" block when I took it them. Just thinking..............
Thanks,
Erich

the "pink rod" is just a normal rod that is shotpeened and magnafluxed and painted pink otherwise they are identical.

The "Pink" rod was started in '69 in the 302. They were bushed for floating pins, shotpeened, and magnafluxed. The name is purely speculation, as some claim it is from the designer of the rod, Ed Pink. Others state it is from the pink stripe painted on them to identify them at the factory.
One interesting note...the powdered metal rods in my '97 LT1 also have a pink paint mark on them.

Well, not me personally...I bought a '97 30th anniversary Z28. I had about 400 miles on it, when one day driving with the radio turned down, I noticed a noise in it. Actually quite a bit of noise. Actually, when it was cold, it sounded like the bottom end was coming apart. Really loud at 25-2700 rpm with light throttle. It would get less as it warmed up, but would not go away totally. I took it into the dealer, and they took it all apart. Found 3 cylinders that were too big. They sent it to the machine shop, fitted hi-limit (.005") oversize pistons at .0018" (!!!!!!) clearance, and it STILL RATTLES!!!!!!!!! It does go away as it warms up, though now. I looked at the pistons that came out, and I think that it is just a poor design piston. First it is hypereutectic, second the skirts are REAL short. I will say that I am impressed with the performance, for stock. Pulls strong all the way to the 6000 rpm limiter.

I KNOW I read an article this month all about Pink rods! But I can not find it anywhere. Anyone else out there read it? Please tell me it wasn't those darn Chevelle bugs whispering in my ears again while I sleep.
