Not sure where to post this, so i'll just throw it out here! Dose anyone know if they make a power steering gear box reseal kit for the chevelle? I hate to buy a new box when all mine needs is a seal or two!! Thanks!

Send it out and have it rebuilt.

Your local NAPA carries them, but as said prior... better off buying a rebuilt one. Its easier to just take it on / off and not have to worry about repeat leaks.

The kit is available, but don't pull the rack out unless you have to. All them little balls will fall out and can be difficult to get back in the first time. I can send you a photo and specs of the tool you will need to make to get the balls back in. Before you start have a service manual and read the procedure carefully.

Nice tip. To remove the pitman arm seal remove the clip and then start the engine and turn the steering wheel hard to the left or right and the seals will pop out the bottom. Make sure you use an oil pan. you just have to pry out the top seal. Good luck but remember sometimes being cheap is very costly.

You can get seal kits for about $15 just about anywhere that will cover the entire Chevelle steering gearbox. You will need to be a bit mechanical to install one, but it will give you every seal and O-ring in the box (and there are a bunch).

The balls are not really too big of a problem, I have done a few without any of the special tools whatsoever. The thing I do is to sort the balls into "BIG" and "small" piles. The difference between big and small is about 0.0005" which you generally will not be able to measure. But you can slide the balls through a cheap caliper and feel the difference. The small ones will fall right through while the big ones will have a slight pop going through. Double check and make sure you end up with the same number of small balls as big balls.

You can also find original factory rebuild instructions on JimL's steering papers site. Do a search for "steering papers" and you can find the links, he has helpfully posted them a number of times.

With respect to re-leaks... take some care to clean all the shafts well so there is no grit or other gunk (rust?) present to scratch the seals. The factory procedure actually recommends wrapping tape around splines to prevent seal cuts as they go over.
