How do you like it?

I really hated the look when they first came out...but after seeing a few in person (and hearing them!), they have grown on me a bit..especially the 05/06 model, and I have been seeing some for sale with low miles...so it had me thinking a little bit i guess.

Just wondered what you thought about them as an owner...certainly if anyone has ridden in one, Id like to hear about that too!

thanks,

j

A good friend has an 04.

I have ridden in and driven it.

The car is awesome!
He has made some mods to the engine, and (no one looking) it has seen 140+ mph on the open highway.
It runs 12's in the 1/4 and gets 28mpg.

Here is a pic of my 65 and his 04

cool..i had just seen you picture in the other thread you posted and it reminded me to ask the question! any idea of what he did to 'tweak' it? what did it run stock?

also wondering what it would be like to live with on a daily driven sort of basis..i have been driving a 4wd truck for WAY too long, and would love to get a car.

I would love to have one..I like the sort of "stealth" look, and the performance is great.

I bought a new 65 GTO in 65.....of course I didn't keep it.:(

They look pretty good! Some had the 5.7 and the later had the 6.0 LS2 I believe. I was a sitting next to one the other day in Dinwiddie and he had a nice lope to it and some exhaust work obviously. We both got on it pretty good and we were even. He yelled out , "Hey man! What the hell you got in that thing?" I replied, "The same thing you got in THAT thing, a 6.0 LS2" He laughed and gave the thumbs up. This was me driving my 2006 GMC Sierra VortecMax 2wd. We were not street RACING as we only went to the posted speed limit ;)

It ran 13's stock, so far he has added headers and cat backs, a cold air intake and that is about it.
As far as a daily driver it is great.
Good mileage, superior handling (thanks to the Corvette chassis it sits on) and tons of performance.

He can almost run with me in the 1/4 mile but smokes me on the open road.

there is nothing "Corvette" about the suspension, other than it being 4 wheel independent with PBR brake calipers.
i remember when the Lumina came out in '90 or so, they were bragging up it's "Corvette inspired" rear suspension in all the ads. but, again, the only similarities to a Corvette was that the rear was independent, and i think they also had PBR brake calipers.
as for the GTO- i'll take an '05 or '06 with a 6 speed.. in black..

That's what I'm saying!

I've been thinking of checking them out, but at this point, it's out of my budget. I gotta clean up some more debt, then I'll be ready for something new(er) :)

Oops, guess that's why I don't own one....I forgot the GTO is Australian born with a Corvette Engine.
The 04 has the 6 speed as well as 0506.

The 05-06 seem cheap and ugly compared to the 04 with the plastic GTO rear.

The LS2 is the only thing going for the 05-06 imo.

the 05 and 06 models look better because they added dual exhaust tips, and they had the optional "ram air" looking hood that added some character to an otherwise bland body style.
oh, yeah, and about 50 more horses stuffed under the hood..

The wife just called me right now, we're gonna go look at an '06 GTO in about a half hour http://lamustangclub.com/forums/images/smilies/look.gif LoL :D

Aside from looking pretty nice, over here in So Cal, LOTS of GTOs get raped by Mustangs and Cobras

I keep looking at the salvage ads for one to build, but even those are expensive.

I just bought one on ebay for a friend of mine. We paid 21,000 for a 2006 with 29,000 miles and a 6 speed.

I drove it once and I wouldn't mind getting one in the future. If it wasn't so plain looking they would have sold them like crazy. I think they are a good looking car but nothing special but for the price of a 400 hp sports car they are a heck of buy.

Speaking of wrecked GTO's
http://www.mottauto.com/cars.php?type=c&id=749
I purchased a wrecked 04, with a 6-speed from this place several months ago, that I am going to use as a donor for my 70 convertible.

Well I just test drove a silver '06 GTO a lil while ago :D It was pretty sweet! I couldn't really get on it because it's been raining here in So Cal, and there was too much traffic on the street. I did get to punch it really quick on an empty side street, but it wasn't enough to get the rear squirrely, but enough to throw my head back a bit :D They're asking $24,900 for it, which isn't too bad, but steep for my situation right now. We started to work some numbers, but two of the dealer's finance companies had closed, so supposedly they're gonna call me back in the morning.

They want me to put down $2500, and my payments started off at being $595 a month, and he went down to as low as about $520 a month. If it wasn't for the stupid Five Hundred we just got not too long ago, I'd easily afford that $500 payment, but right now, if I were to try to take on a payment like that, we'd be soooo tight financially, it'd hurt! I told the guy that if he could swing $450 a month, then maybe we can try to work something LoL My wife told me that if they can work $450, then they can work $400! hahaha :D So yeah, I doubt I'll be getting one, but it was really nice to get the chance to drive one! :D

Anyone here know of any good GTO forums? I'm kinda interested in checking them out and seeing what people are doing to their cars! :)

Here is THEE website for those guys...

You should be able to pick up an 04 for about 14-18K.

FYI my friend has an 05 or 06 he is trying to sell. It is a light bluish color, 6 speed, probably 7k miles, h/c package. It is near 500rwhp. Very comfortable car. I love the interiors.

Does the 666 on the plate stand for "The mark of the Beast" ? :D

Man!!! The guy from the Caddy dealer that the GTO is at keeps calling! LoL He said that he'd drop the price to $24,xxx and my monthly payments would be around $495 or so with an apr of about 15%. I had told him that I would like my payments to be no more then $450/month, but preferably closer to $400/month. Even *IF* he were to give me what I'm asking for, I have no idea if I'd be able to afford it :( I probably could squeeze the $450/month, but I have no idea what my car insurance would jump to!

Personally, I LOVE the rear ends on the '06s! I LOVE the look of that plastic between the exhaust tips, it just gives it that extra "umph" in the looks department for me! :D

Lots of good info out there. As far as pricing one with under 50k miles shouldn't be hard to find for around $20k maybe even a bit less even for an 05/06. You just gotta keep an eye out. One thing nobody else has mentioned that I really admire about the GTO's are their seats. They have to be some of the most comfortable and supportive stock front seats out there.
