Guys, Lets see those before and after pic's. Let's see what that diamond in the rough use to look like. Would like to see some cars that were back yard
finds. Post the before and after pic's. Or maybe a progress pic. At times I look at my 64 and wonder it's possible to bring her back from the dead. I viewed a 69 chevelle the other day I could'nt believe was the same car. It was a real junker. I could use a little motivation for my project. Thanks Team chevelle.

Hey Brad. I take it that you didn't find the build sheet under the carpet or behind the rear seat. Oh wait... what seat, what floor. The heat in Florida must be getting to ya.

My '66 was stolen July 31, 2005. 22 hours later it was recovered, stripped and mutilated, for lack of a better term. The insurance company declared it totalled. I had to petition to buy back the carcass (which is easier said than done after a theft). On September 10, 2005 I bought another stripped, incomplete, but reasonably straight '66, from a local TCer that was/is in the middle of of a restomod on his own '66. I decided on the powertrain and started collecting parts in October. The pictures in the driveway were taken December 28, 2005, when the city told me I had a so many days (a week or two, I don't remember, not enough though) to get it cleared out. I was able to consolidate it down to one car, parking the other out back. The first week of February, I had a time consuming 12 day job, so I sent it to MAACO for paint. Got it back February 19, 2006 and started assembling everything.

The car was operational by March 1, 2006 and 3 days later, registered, requiring a DMV inspection because the replacement body had a California title (last registered 1989).

SO, 7 months and 1 day from the day it was stolen it was back on the road.

Thanks Mike. :) That really means alot to me. Some days I wonder if I've sniffed a few too many vapors, and my ride is some kind of freak show. I really like it too, and I'm glad you're down on it.

BTW, that ride of yours looks BadA$$ with that big ol' cowl scoop.

Racing on the Island is fairly limited. There's the 440' at Western in Victoria, and the 300' at Saratoga in Courtenay, and the Big Daddy is at the Port Alberni Airport on August long weekend, we get a full 1/4 mile for 3 days !

Other than that, it's Mission as you are more than familiar with. I hooked up with the clan in the NW forum, so I plan to help seal some pavement in Washington this summer.

Thanks again for the props on my ratty ol' 68.

She's all go, and no show. :beers:

I haven't touched the Chevelle in 4 years, but I acquired an 88 IROC 3 years ago that was in bad shape. I just had it painted at a Community College. I didn't do any of the body restoration, except empty my wallet !!

Joel,

You will learn as you go. I did lots of reading, lots of research on here, and as I took the car apart I cataloged everything. I bought one of those plastic drawer cabinets for little screws and such, and labled each drawer and placed my screws and bolts in there. I even split left and right sides such as doors and fenders. It makes things a lot easier when you are reassembling. When you end up with more time than money, take parts off such as brackets like your bumper brackets, fender brackets/braces and clean and paint them. You can always do lots of cleaning that takes more time than money. If your car is not your only mode of transportation, pulling the motor can give you lots of stuff to do such as cleaning the firewall, frame, cross member, cleaning up your wiring harness and painting all that freshly cleaned metal. If it is your daily driver, do what you can on weekends and when you have time, and it will slowly come together.

My first chevelle which is partly what this car is made of, was my daily driver in college. I did a lot of this stuff including having the interior done as that would only take a day or two, and it was ready for when I got ready to do the big jobs like the body and paint.

Just don't be in a hurry, and take lots of pics, especially if you are taking apart things like brackets and supports, that way you have a reference when you go to rebuild it.
