I am going to do some mild upgrades on my 69 Chevelle. It is a stock engine 350 2 barrel. I was thinking of putting a Edlebrock manifold 500 or 600 carb and a mild cam in it. Strickly street use. Some friends have told me my stock valves my not be big enough I checked them they are 1.940 and 1.500. really didnt want to buy new heads also. Any one have any thoughts on this? I would appreciate any feed back.

Thanks Roger

The stock valves are not exactly huge on your engine, but if you don't want to change the heads you don't really have to. Even the stock 300-horse 350 used 1.94" intake & 1.50" exhaust valves. You'll be fine if you are seeking a decent street engine that is not radical. Of course you always could change the heads...

No need to change out those heads unless you want to add compression. Then you'd have two choices- smaller chambered heads or domed pistons. I think you're going in the right direction with just the cam and carb.

Those valves are perfect for the street, they are said to be a bit better for torque so go with the other parts and forget about the valve size. However I would put in new springs and seals but get the cam manufacturers suggested spring.

I don't think they made a '69 Chevelle , 350 2-barrel engine, did they??

'72, yes...

It's not a stock 307 is it??

Post back the letters at the end of the long VIN number string that should be on the little deck pad that's right above the pass. side top water pump bolt and we will try to decode what she is.

Just asking is all and medium valve heads are FINE, imho..........

Thanks for all of the replies Yes this is a numbers matching car I did my research before I bought it had a friend that is an appraiser decode it for me. Also belive it or not it came with a power glide that I am changing also. To reaffirm everything on the car I double checked on www.chevellestuff.com (http://www.chevellestuff.com) its a match theres alot of good info on decoding on that web site.

Also Edelbrock recommended a 650 carb does that sound to big??

Thanks Roger

Great!

Had me worried there. It's a 275hp/350, P/G, 2-barrel, A/F/X engine.

I didn't even know they made a 275hp/350, learn something every day. Maybe somebody's posted about this before and I flat forgot it??
