: Can I flip Weld Draglites Over?
Troy70SS Jan 8th, 04, 1:49 PM I got a pair of DragLites 15x8 with a 3.5" backspace for $100. Is there any reason I can't run these installed backwards? They are a little tight (fender clearance) installed correctly but if I turn them over things fit nicely. I know the filler stem is on the back but it doesn't hit my rear drums and if I'm only using them at the track then I can live with crawling under the car to adjust air pressure. What do you think?
Thanks, Troy.
ZZ69chevelle Jan 8th, 04, 1:53 PM I wouldn't do it. Maybe you can trade them for the right back spacing.
Troy70SS Jan 8th, 04, 5:20 PM Why not? I'm looking for some technical reasoning. I don't really get off on the idea but I don't think I can trade used wheels in on new ones from Weld. New ones are over $300 a pair and they won't bring me performance. I try not to spend money when it won't make me faster or safer.
Has anyone ever tried it? They seem to fit fine that way.

SoCalRat Jan 8th, 04, 5:24 PM Why don't you ask the manufacture?
BowtieAaron Jan 8th, 04, 6:32 PM why not just run smaller tires, it should fit then. as for flipping them around. try it and give us results.

mls48341 Jan 8th, 04, 6:42 PM Might I suggest a half throttle pass at the onset? graemlins/clonk.gif
TROY Jan 8th, 04, 10:09 PM i have a buddy that does it all the time. he never has any trouble. he even drilled a hole in wheel for valve stem. doubled stemmed
ToyzRMe Jan 9th, 04, 12:40 AM I have a pair of 10" early Centerlines that I've run backwards and drilled the second valvestem hole. No problems. Just funny looking but so what?

Lonnie67 Jan 9th, 04, 12:42 AM Are you going to polish the back then? I think they would still look kind of funny.
Troy70SS Jan 9th, 04, 8:16 AM Thanks guys - I think I will try it. Yes I will polish the back and I think I might even try to drill the second valve stem hole. I could plug the unused one with a tubeless stem that won't actually get used.
Yes a part throttle blast is probably a good idea.
Any of you run the drag lites and then switch back to rally's for the street? If so, What wheel studs are you using? I'm afraid my derby's won't go back on if I use anything over 2" long. Did you stay with the 7/16" studs?

Troy. I plan on swapping from Draglites to my Rally's for the street also and was wondering about the stud size too..
Troy70SS Jan 9th, 04, 11:14 AM I'm going to experiment this weekend. I'll olet you know what I figure out.

Pat Kelley Jan 9th, 04, 11:38 AM The track required me to go to long studs with Crager SuperLite IIs, which are identical to Weld's Draglites. According to the rule book, the studs must go at least the diameter of the stud into the hex portion of the nut. Draglites have a very thick center section and stock length studs will not reach all the way through them into the hex portion of the lug nut. I got by for a year with stock studs before getting caught. If you go to long studs, you'll need open end lug nuts. The closed ended nuts are not threaded in the hex. Since they are hardened, you can't tap them any deeper.
Troy70SS Jan 9th, 04, 1:00 PM Thanks Pat. Have you tried to put a set of rally's on with the long studs? Will they clear the derby?
Pat Kelley Jan 9th, 04, 8:09 PM Yes, rallys with MT slicks went on with no problem. I don't know what a "derby" is.
BruteSBC Jan 10th, 04, 10:27 AM would wheel spacers help?
Troy70SS Jan 13th, 04, 9:25 AM OK - A derby is a slang term for the center cap on corvette rally's. And I have found out that hey won't go on after putting in the 2-7/8" Moroso Race studs. I even cut down the stud to make it about 2-3/8" (basically as short as I can make it and still have it go all the way into the open end racing lugs. The derby will still not go on. I could probably run a 1/2" spacer and get it to work. I think I'm going to try that. I thought about over the weekend and I'm a little concerned about the rally's not centering properly once the spacers are in place and getting a little vibration but it's worth a try.
I'll keep everyone informed.
