Ok I have received some good replies to my previous post. There seems to be a difference in opinion between people. You set your base and mechanical with the vacuum off. Then hook up the vacuum. Now my question is I know you shoot your base then reb it up to 3000rpm and dial in your number for me 36 for total. Now my issue is some say adjust the vacuum advance so your running 40 to 50 grand total with it hooked up. Others say the 36 total should include the vacuum advance. EX. base + mechanical + vacuum advance= 36 or base + mechanical=36 then add the vacuum advance for a grand total of 40 to 50.

This should be all I need to clear this up.

"or base + mechanical=36 then add the vacuum advance for a grand total of 40 to 50. " is correct.

Depends on the port you are using for your vacuum. Manifold or Ported vacuum act differently in relation to vacuum advance.

Either way, at WOT you aren't going to be getting any vacuum advance because there should be no vacuum. At that time 34-36 (Or whatever the engine likes) should be what your total is at.

Set everything with the vacuum line off and plugged. Then put the vacuum on, and with the adjustable vacuum advance of the Mallory Dizzy I have, I like to run around 12-14deg at idle on manifold vacuum.

Your total should be initial+mechanical with the vacuum advance plugged. After this is set you can hook up the vacuum advance to see how much advance you will have under light throttle conditions if it is to much limit the vacuum advance, not the initial or total.
