Got my GenVI 454 and 700r4 all installed and have been hooking things up.Went to bolt the torq convertor to the flex plate only to find the bolt holes don't line up.About a 1/2 hole off.And the TC is to loose in the center of the FP.The FP was supplied by the machine shop and the TC was the same with the 402BB combo b4.
Are there different FP's for GenVI and GenIV's?
Or different one's for different Auto's?

I guess I'll start pulling the tranny graemlins/angry.gif

Any advice would be appreciated...

Is it possible that your flexplate is drilled with only one bolt pattern? :( I always use the dual bolt pattern for torque convertor swaps.

Yep, you will need a dual pattern flexplate. You can get them for internal or externally balanced engines.

I had the exact same problem with my GENVI 454 I was able to unbolt the tranny and slide it far enough back so I could get the flex plate off and take it to the machine shop so they could enlongate the holes now it works fine, they didnt even charge me since I bought the flex plate from them. I have my tranny out now if you need measurements

I just swapped converters last november, went from the B&M to the ATI,,,the B&M bolts on,the ATI is threaded, I had to get out the dremel and open the holes up slightly in the flexplate so the holes would line up with the ATI converter. How can the torque converter be loose in the center of the flexplate? the snout of the converter goes into the crank not the flexplate.

Thanks guys,
Bob,I've only looked at this problem briefly, knowing it wasn't right I just went onto other things to be done.At the time it seemed REAL loose on the snout end, like it had room to waller around

Ed, mearsurements would help.Looks to me to be about .5" off.But that was a brief look tho.
I'll be out there working on it later today and will check better.

The TC only has 3 bolts that hold it in.There are more holes than that on the FP.Could it be I just didn't use the right ones? I tried two different holes for one bolt.It just seemed strange to be sOOO woobley on the snout end tho.

I'll check it out better later today.Wife wants to go to the Nebraska Furniture Mart.. :(

Not only are the flexplates different from Mk IV to Gen 6, but the Gen 5/6 takes a different 'plate depending on cast or forged crank. Is the engine balanced to use the flexplate you've got? Have you tried the other set of bolt holes?

The other bolt holes were the same.I pulled the tranny back a little, took the FP out and slotted the holes about 1/2" and reinstalled it.It seems to be fine now. We'll see when I get it started.
Thanks all.Now I need to find a cover for the FP/TC. Any ideas?
