Looking for idea's or finding out if I'm going in the right direction. 1966 chevelle 396, 325 HP, stock but with a Holley 4160 750 cfm carb, and HEI ignition. When car was running I got a raw feul smell coming out the exhaust all the time. Just pulled the motor out. Found a gasket under the carb that was allowing feul to go into the exhaust track, timing chain was worn to where you could rotate crank almost 2 degrees before cam moved, and 6 bent intake push rods. Obviously the timing was off and things were worn out. Could this had been my problem with the smell? Oh and # 6 and 8 plugs were almost carboned shut.
