Not sure if I really want to or not, but I'm got two kids, bills, not alot of free time, and the car probably wasn't driven more than 100 miles last year.

My wife and I would like to take the kids to Disney this summer, and have some work done to our house.

I've owned this car since 1998, its a reall (138) SS-396, its a 4 speed car, but the original engine and transmission were gone before I ever got it.

I've rebuilt the front and rear suspension with poly bushings, new springs, new shocks, and added boxed lowers and sway bar to the rear.

The seats (Buckets) were recovered last year or the year before.

It runs good, I took it to the drag strip 3 times, and it runs mid 13s at 106 mph pretty consistantly.

Its got a holley 750 carb that I bought about 7 years ago, that works well, MSD 6AL ignition, with rev limiter, billit distributor, Flowmaster mufflers, and tail pipes, Edlebrock single plane intake.

The tranmission is a Borg Warner Super T-10 that was rebuilt when it was installed about 9 years ago. I doubt that its got 5000 miles since the rebuild.

The body looks really nice, but I admit that there is bondo in the trunk floor, and patches in the rear inner wheel wells. I've had the carpet out when the seats were out and there are no holes or patches in the floor.

Its the Dark Pewter metalic in color with a painted on red SS stripe.

I was going to keep this car forever, and restore it to perfect someday, but its starting to look like that day is a long way off.

Whats this car worth, realistically ?

(P.S. Don't feel too bad for me, I've also got a 72 SS Chevelle with a ZZ-502 in it that I'm keeping)

IMO you could probably put it out there for $30k as a starting point and see what kind of traffic it generates. The color combo and 4 speed will get some looks for sure. I don't think you would get $30k quickly but pricing it high gives you some wiggle room on coming down. Prices on these cars seem to be hovering around $25-28k with the higher priced ones sitting for sale for a long time. You could throw it on Ebay with a high reserve too and see where it goes. Good Luck Thad :)

Sounds like a 20-25K car around here

Agree with Chris on the $20-$25k. I can relate...I have a couple cars I haven't driven since 2005. But every time I write a classified ad for one of em I can't quite hit the 'submit' button.... :)

That sounds familiar. I get a lump in my throat, when I tell my friends and family what I'm thinking. My wife says, and I'd tend to agree, that since we've had kids, I've got a lot less time, money or energy to spend on the cars.

Seems like a shame to let it sit so much. At least it sleeps indoors.

20 grand would make the sting of seeing the old girl go down the road to a new owner sting a bit less.

This is the car my wife used to refer to as "her rival".

Weather sucks, right now there is too much snow to get it out for pictures.
I'll probably reinstall the Rally Wheels, and keep the TTDs for the orange car, when I list the 68.

Keep your eyes on the classified section, then ebay, If I don't get any worth while offers.

Thanks Thad

P.S. Did I mention its the 68 SS-396 in my sig ?
Probably have more photos in the TC showroom.
