trying to improve on my last outing 2 weeks ago of 13.68 @ 105.454 with 2.185 60 ft (no tire spinning hooked and floored) i made a few changes in hopes.
added oil splash shield under rpm intake
added heat cross over block plates
rerouted fuel line away from block
covered all fuel lines with foam.

it appears doing this stuff only made the engine more stable. before the engine ran best cold but now i can run it warmer then before and not loss e.t or mph.

todays result

1st pass 13.88 @ 104.633 with 2.25 60 ft

i discovered my timing was off i thought i had reset it back to 20 degree initial but it was only at 16 degrees opps

2nd pass

13.78 @ 105.420 w/ 2.24 60 ft

i put the timing at 19 degrees initial and the engine was 160 degrees in burn out box.

3rd pass

13.79 @ 105.384 w/ 2.24 60 ft

i replaced the purple secondary spring with a stiffer plain stock spring in the holley carb.

4th pass

13.70 @ 105.58 w/ 2.21 60 ft

i changed the standard spring with a tall yellow spring in the secondary's and i had a brain fart and short shifted my 1-2 shift at 6200 rpms instead of the normal 6500 shift point.

5th pass

13.69 @ 105.93 w/ 2.194 60 ft

i pushed the timing up on this pass from 19 degrees to 21 degrees initial and shifted at 6500 rpms.

so i was pretty much happy with end results. i gained about a .5 more in mph and the car runs just as good with the temp being up unlike before ( i dont need to wait so long betweens rounds to cool down)

im going to chip away more at this and try to get some 106 mph runs in this combo. and try to knock down the 60 ft times some i think i can do this with alittle more timing.....and i'll play with some more jets as well......

What does an 80 Z28 weigh? You have mph for 12 second passes.

it weights in right at 3900 lbs with driver and fuel. ya it has the mph for 12's but with my 2.73 gears its just not going to make it. it might if i add a higher stall to around 3000-3200 rpms and put slicks on it but this is a daily driver and was ment to cruise down the highway.

my stall (advertised 2800 but brake stalls at 2500) allows me to leave the line just under under the power band. at 3000 rpms it comes on strong. with this set up i can leave the line on street tires full throttle and not have to worry about spinning the regular 245/60-15 uniroyals.

if i had a 3000 plus stall then i would just go up in smoke on street radials.....i would rather not have to worry about.

 that heavy?? I'm lucky to get mine to brake stall to 2300 and its a 10" ATI 3500 stall converter.

For what its worth, the 10" TCI converter that I had gone over will foot brake to 2500 and flash to 3000. It is very tight in that RPM range. I have tried to footbrake mine 408 to the 2500 stall and then let it go - will burn the 275-60's well into 2nd gear. My best launch is stab the throttle from idle and hope for the best. The best 60' time was 2.25 doing it like this on the way to 14.06 at 97MPH.

Man I can't believe the F bodies weighed that much in the early 80's.

My '80 Camaro weighed exactly 35 lbs less than my '70 Chevelle...both small block w/auto.

I think you have found the same thing as what I have, get the car moving from idle or just off idle and not try to launch by holding the car against the converter stall speed. Hitting the throttle from idle must allow the chassis to react a little better even with street tires and a street suspension.

Regarding your car weight, you have the last of the big Camaro's, right? They were actually fairly large cars with large interiors and a lot of safety features built into the body. Probably the last of the cars with the good old fashioned sheetmetal.
