View Full Version : New ProCar seats from Summit
Brians1bad72 Feb 19th, 08, 1:46 PM I just installed a new set of bucket seats from summit ( lowback buckets with headrests) and they sit a bit to high. I bought the brackets for the seats from Summit for these seats. They have a three hole adjustment, and Ive got them in the lowest hole, but still seem to be a little high. Anybody run in to this problem, are there any solutions. The car is a 72 Chevelle.
Joel642DRpost Feb 19th, 08, 1:57 PM Procar seats are real nice. Let's see some pic's!!
RAMBO Feb 19th, 08, 1:58 PM Thats just kind of the way they are... I had the Rally 2000's back about 7 years ago, and while they were great seats, they just sit higher... something you just have to get used to... Eventually they do break in a little and allow you to sink in a bit, but not much.

Which brackets did you buy? I am looking to buy the same seats. Do you have to buy a R&L bracket like the seats or are they universal. If possible could you post a link to the seats you bought and the brackets.
Thanks
Chris
Alwhite00 Feb 19th, 08, 10:13 PM Depending on how they are built, Could you just fab some up? Any pictures of the brackets would also help.

RAMBO Feb 19th, 08, 10:41 PM The brackets are left and right specific- they are made to mount up to the factory bench or bucket seat mounting points.
Brians1bad72 Feb 20th, 08, 1:23 AM Chris, the seats and brackets came from summit. OPG also carries the same seats and brackets but they are more expensive than Summit for the same seats and brackets. The seats and brackets delivered to my house were $619.00 thats a good price for brand new seats in my opinion compared to the price of factory correct ones. The web sight is Summit Racing, and the part numbers for the seats are sca-80-1300-51L for left and sca-80-1300-51R for right side. The bracket numbers are sca-81704 Drivers side and sca-81705 for passengers side. Hope this helps.
Auldron Feb 20th, 08, 7:30 AM Thanks alot Brian thats perfect, I am going to order them soon.
DWJ70 Feb 21st, 08, 9:21 AM I ran into the same problem, also have the side specific brackets. I didn't know if it was due to the fact that i haven't sat in the car in over two years, that i just forgot how close i was to the headliner anyway. I think i will eventually end up making some sort of bracket to lower it a little, or just wait and see if they sink a tad. Besides that they are nice and comfortabole seats.

krush9451 Feb 21st, 08, 1:09 PM This might not sound like it will work but leave the rear mounting hole in the lowest setting and the put the front on the highest setting. Worked for me for some reason.
70.chevelle.malibu Feb 27th, 08, 8:25 AM i just bought the sam seats and hads this problem. i simply just put the back in the owest hole and the front in the highest. It gives you more of a bucket seat feel.
they do sit higher, but they are way more comfortable then stock buckets.
1966_L78 Mar 13th, 08, 1:46 PM I have been looking into these...
Do they include sliders for front-to-back seat adjustment?

yup- those come with the seats, the mounting brackets bolt to the floor, then the seat's slider rails bolt to the mounting brackets.
Jblack Mar 13th, 08, 3:35 PM Ran into the same problem when we put them into my buddy's 68 Mustang. Ended up hard mounting it directly to the floor for the drivers side. He's like 6'3" and his head hit the roof when using the mtg brackets. So we fabbed up some 1" flat stock and mounted it to the existing holes. Problem is when I drive the car I can barely reach the pedals! :D
Auldron Mar 20th, 08, 12:15 PM Hello Guys,
I am almost ready to buy these same Procar seats and I had one more questions before I pulled the trigger. If you buy the aftermarket seats where do you mount the OEM Seatbelts? Is their a bracket you attach to it? or do you buy aftermarket seatbelts? I have only had bench seats so I don't even know how the OEM seatbelts are installed in a Chevelle with Buckets. All help and pics of your seats and seatbelts would be appreciated.
Regards,
Chris

The seat belts are attached to the floor pan, not the seat... So different seats shouldn't affect the mounting of the belts...
Bench or bucket use the same mounting holes...
Dandydynodon May 24th, 08, 9:50 AM can anyone post a picture of the seats installed?

Brandon,
the original Bench only had two outer mounting points anyway, so they'd require new holes...
The factory "bucket" seats had raised brackets welded to the floor (for the front mounts), which is probably why the ProCar brackets are different for original bench or bucket cars...
I never installed the ProCars (I ordered some, but the seats were to small for me, so I returned them), but I thought YOU position the seat where YOU want it, and then drill holes...
Notalent Oct 10th, 08, 5:44 PM Ahhhh makes sense than....Time to bust out the drill and than make some additonal supports.
Thanks!

No, that is not right... the bench to bucket seat brackets should line up with the outter holes- you would need to drill new inner holes of course. If they don't its possible they sent you the wrong ones, or you have them backwards.
658Chevy Oct 10th, 08, 6:10 PM One thing to consider is that the springs and foam in your original seats were probably worn and compressed. The new seats are going to make you feel like you're in a booster seat at Denny's.
Regarding seat belts, I put in some Morris Concepts seat belts that are made especially for muscle cars. They're fully retractable shoulder and lap belts that mount into the existing holes of the car. The only complaint I have for them is that the shoulder strap tends to ride against your neck. I tried those plastic guides that clip on to the lap strap and they work O.K.
I have fabricated a guide that brings the shoulder strap down off your face. It works really well. It's made using some 1" flat bar and the guide from a 2000 Camaro convertible. I have only one side fabbed up so far and am waiting for the other part to come in. I'll post some pics as soon as they're both done and in the car.
Notalent Oct 10th, 08, 9:47 PM Are there any 5 point or racing harnesses that would work with these seats?
67T56Elky Oct 11th, 08, 2:53 AM It may be a additional expense but consider having an upholstery guy cut the foam down in the bottom to drop you down some? They sure look like a nice seat.
Been years since Ive been in mine...Better put the old seats in and take notes before the new foams go on.
w8rok Oct 12th, 08, 11:08 AM Here are some pics of my Pro Car Rallys.... These are in my 70 SS.
Hope this helps. I personally think that they are wonderful seats and very comfortable. I am 6'3" and 230 lbs and love the fit.
