: Bucket seat Foam
Donnie1 Feb 19th, 08, 2:10 PM I bought bucket seat foam once and it was stiff as a board and put my head up in the headliner. (almost needed a roof hatch).
is their anyone out there thats making correct foam thats soft and puts you in the seat correctly?
Donnie1 Feb 20th, 08, 2:12 PM so, I take it no one is making the correct stuff.
busterwivell Feb 20th, 08, 4:53 PM I had the same problem when I did mine, but the seat foam "settles" after a little while and I can now drive my car with a cap on again.
Jim Mac Feb 20th, 08, 9:30 PM I got mine from NPD, they were about 200 a pair, I understand you want the more expensive set, they fit the upholstery better. jim
BlueSS454 Feb 21st, 08, 12:25 AM I got new foams for mine when I did it 8 years ago, not happy with them at all. They don't fill in the material. I would just have an upholsterer do it. That's what I did when I had the seats for the 69 done, 100% happy with them.
blm Feb 21st, 08, 10:38 AM American Cushion Industries is the brand everyone says is the best. NPD sells this brand and they are the cheapest. I know there is a place Indiana that sells American Cushion, so if they are close to you then you could avoid the shipping. I found a post that had a toll free number for American Cushion so I called them. This was only about a week ago. They gave me 4 places to purchase. The place in Indiana ( I don't remember their name, but I did call them ) a Pontiac place in New Hampshire or Conneticut, the Paddock and NPD. The shipping is oversized for these so it is a little more exspensive. I think even with shipping NPD was just a couple dollars more than the place in Indiana wanted just for the cushions.
blacknblue Feb 21st, 08, 11:18 AM Was the place in Indiana called Harmons Restoration Parts?
blm Feb 21st, 08, 12:46 PM Yes that is it.
The Paddock is also in Indiana.

I got mine from NPD, they were about 200 a pair,
Hinshaws sells the ACI cushions, Their latest catalog lists them at $100 per seat or $190 for the pair... cheaper than NPD?
blumont Feb 21st, 08, 9:40 PM I used the foam from American Cushion for my 65 buckets. They definately are not hard. I would say they don't fill the seat or covers enough. If I had to do it again I think I would have some new foams made locally.
Donnie1 Mar 8th, 08, 10:35 PM So. who all has ACI seat foam and whats your opinion of it?
bully70SS Mar 9th, 08, 4:28 PM I use the ACI seat foam. Fits good, no trimming, is soft and makes a nice comfy seat. Cost about $200 for a set but is worth it, the cheaper stuff need trimming to get it to fit right. It's a PITA job to fit.
doc j Mar 9th, 08, 5:25 PM I have the ACI cushions, they are much better then the one's I tried from Ground Up. It's been a few years but the price from both places was around $70 per seat. Mine are still comfy and I get loads of compliments on a do-it-myself job.
