FIRST---I know cranking compression is related to the intake closing. NOW--- i thought i would pull a few plugs and see where i was at.(I know they all need to be out and the throttle blades open)but i just pulled a few, throttle closed. checked it cold , between 160-170. checked the seem few HOT 150  . dosent this sound a little weak for 10.77 cr? i was thinkin more along the lines of 180 or so.

Dave,

I wouldn't put to much stock in cranking compression as a performance indicator. I would note the value on a fresh engine and use it to diagnose a potential issue as time goes on and you get some run time on it. Be sure to check it in the same way every time.

You know the engine makes good power as shown by the dyno.

If you were at 160-170 psi cold with all plugs and throttle closed you would likely be at 180 or so measured in the more traditional method. Your starter may be heat soaked when hot and not turning the engine over at the same speed even though the cylinder is sealing up better due to being at operating temperature.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. How is everything going? When do you think you will be making some shakedown passes?

Camshaft duration will change the cranking compression. As will the position where the cam is installed ( advance-retard).
