My truck has given me some big ones lately, maybe some of you guys can help me out.It had sat for a few COLD days since I parked it.I sent my son out to move it so he could snowblow the driveway,he came back in soon after and said it wouldn't start.I spent several hours troubleshooting it and I ended up having to crank the distributor about 60 degrees from where it was set!!!! Finally got it running after that. What happened??? Did something shift inside the distributor??It is running now but I am afraid to take it anywhere in case whatever moved does it again.Any suggestions????

How old is the gas in it? Could possibly have had some moisture in there and got partially frozen in the cold? I have had that happen before. I added a bottle of drygas then filled the truck up with new fuel and it was fine after that.

The gas is fresh.....I added 2 bottles of drygas and poured in some fresh gas but still had to turn the distributor quite a bit to get it to fire and run!!!

Gerry,
I would pull the distributor out and look at the gear. The later model Chevy trucks are known for the distributor gear wearing and starting to move. Usually they just stop running, but I have heard of the moving.

Thanks for the responses guys. When we pulled the old distributor out to replace it with a junk yard model,we found the old one very hard to turn by hand and the scrap yard model turned freely. So I'm not sure if the shaft twisted and threw the timing out or if the inductive pickup got turned somehow??? At any rate, the truck is running fine now and thanks again for the replies.
