: Please help me choose a Carburetor?

Can anyone please help me choose a carburetor for my 350. I have an Edelbrock performer intake and have been using a Holley 650cfm double pumper, it has since hit the end of the line and I'm looking for a replacement. I am considering another 650 double pumper or maybe 670cfm street avenger, I would like some feedback on what carburetors some of you have had good luck with and which one you think would be good for my application, I'm open to other carburetors like a road Demon etc, any help would be appreciated thanks.

Heres the spec sheet of my 350. http://www.jasperengines.com/performance/classii3.pdf

Also out of curiosity do you think this 350 would be able to handle a 6-71 blower sometime down the road? ;)

A Holley 600 cfm VS would work well.

I happen to have a new one for sale. PM me if interested.

Qj or a 600 Holley with vacuum secondary. The Qj will give you better mileage, the Holley is easier to find jets & etc. for locally.

Brandon,

I've had pretty good luck with my 750 double pump. But if you really want it to perform well I'd suggest bolting a big block under it :D

Sorry, I can't help myself

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I will make my final decision on Sunday and order it Monday. So far I'm going with replaceing it with another 650 double pumper, any other suggetions keep em coming.

Charlie, you know I'm saving to swap to a big block and it will be a while before it happens so if you would like to send any donations to the Help Brandon get a big block fund they will be greatly appreciated. ;)

holley #3310 750 vacume secondary is probly your best bet for that application. double pumpers are to much for that aplication. stardard 600cfm carbs are to small in my oppinion for that aplication. and eldebrock carb just plain stink so stay away from them. hope that helps my 2 cents

my oppinion is carter carbs are the same as eldebrock. the eldebrocks are more refined. both are not user freindly performance type carbs well in my oppinion anyway. i think both are fine for streetrod type applications or every day use or for the gas mileage concios driver. but as far as being as track tunable sqeezing every available horsepower out of any engine the holleys hold that record for sure. ive used both for many years well 2 decades anyway and i pesonally am i firm beleiver in holley as are most people. eldebrock makes some of the best intake manifolds bar none and some great other products as well. but outa every track from east to west coast outa 500 cars a nite maybe 2 have eldebrock carbs and the rest are holleys. although this is my personal oppinion i am a firm believer in holley carbs. but to each his own

Dang, even the QJ, which replaced the AFB/AVS is a more elegant design!

Why would the double pumper be to much? I've gotten good performance from it and even managed to get 20mpg with it.

What do you guys think about the 670cfm street avenger that Holley makes? anyone have any experience with one.

prepass, thanks fro the offer but I have enough money in my current Holley to have already bought a new one and have money left over. I want a new carburetor.

Thanks for all the responses so far, I still have a week before I order the new carb.

Looking at your combo, I think a 600 CFM vacuum secondary Holley or Edelbrock will work best. Anything more is wasted on your engine. It'll never need anything near the 3310. The 3310 would work because it wouldn't open more than needed, but honestly, I doubt the 600 would open all the way either, but it would give you much better response than the bigger 750 will. It won't take the tuning the 750 will require to get the mix right either. You can also go the Qjet route, but I think it's easier to go with the others if you don't have a lot of experience with them.

go with the 670cfm street avenger. it sounds like that's what you want, so get it. it's your car, put what you want on it, and i think the 670 would be a great middle of the road carb. not too big for now, but big enough to be able to handle the job if you add some other performance parts to your current engine/set up.

When I wanted a new carb, I asked here first. Great advice for my car - 3310 Vacuum secondary in my case. Then I looked around and came across BIGS. They post occasionally here, too. Anyway, my post on that carb is maybe a month or so old, but I am VERY happy with it. Lots of mods that I would do if I did them all myself, but best of all they set the carb up nearly perfect for my application, right out of the box. I highly recommend talking to them if you're looking at a Holley and don't want to keep tinkering to get it set up right. Heck, even if you do, I recommend them.

Plus, they paint the carbs, in my case matched my car's paint. Here's my original post on that with pics of the carb:
