Hello everyone I was just wondering the best way to go about putting a 4spd hump in a column shift 66' chevelle. I am going to put a new TKO 600 5spd in my chevell with a console but the directions say that you have to have the 4spd hump in 1st before you put the template on that they provide. The way that I get it is that must be the main locator for the template. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Beav

Have somebody get you some measurements from a 66. This is a 69, http://www.1969supersport.com/hump.html it might give a guy an idea on how to get some measurements, anyway.

Here are a couple of shots of my 66 4sp console hump. The patch with the oval hole in it is available from all the parts houses. Since the previous owner saw fit to hack this hump to pieces, I welded in a 4sp console hump out of a 66 El Camino. You can see the weld seam running around the perimeter of the hump. Let me know if this is helpful and/or if you would like me to take some measurements. I have more pics at different angles, let me know if you would like me to pm them to you. Hope this helps.

If there is any way that you could get me a couple of measurements that would be great. I sat the hump in and I think I am pretty close I would just like to be sure before I go cutting a hole in my nice floor. Thank you very much for your help, Beav

I bought that hump as well.
I just placed it on the floor and went around it with a marker, and then marked 1" inside the outline and cut that out.

That hump only really fits one way. When I was done, I borrowed my neighbor's M-20 and installed it and the Hurst shifter he had fit perfectly in the hole.

I'm guessin' you are getting a trans from Keisler (that is where i saw that piece of info).

I'm gonna be ordering mine this week. I kind of want to get this 66 Elky going.
I have had it over 2yrs now and have only driven it one time (refusal to drive an auto)
I just love the TKO in my 59 (early TKO--before there were GM applications available),
but the first gear in that one is a bit too short for my personal taste. I'm opting for the 600 in the 66 just for the first gear.

This might not be all that easy to visualize, but using the photos in my earlier post as a reference, I measured from the forward most part of the hole cutout straight ahead to the seam in the floor running sideways across the hump to be 6.25 inches. I measured from the drivers side pinchweld at the floor to the left edge of the hole to be 25.75 inches and from the passenger side pinchweld at the floor to the right edge of the hole to be 30.50 inches. Both of the last two measurements were made at the hole just in front of the shifter handle location with the tape perpendicular to the car centerline. I hope this is clear enough. Let me know if you have questions.

BTW I grew up in a tiny town 20 miles south of Iowa City. I see you are from eastern Iowa. What town?

As said above, These hump fit very well into place, once you get one you'll see what were talking about. They make 2 different ones console or non-console humps. I believe the one in the pic above is for a console car, mine was non console and I believe mine had a smaller shifter hole.

Actually, for 64-66, they ALL use the same hump (same as the one shown, console or not).... Many "parts suppliers" sell two different humps, but the taller (with the small round hole) is NOT a 64-66 "Chevelle" hump (maybe GTO, since they used a Hurst shifter, and the Hurst shifter doesn't fit the stock Chevelle hump hole...

Got the 4spd hump in, and thanks for everyones help. The hump does pretty much only fit one way. The 5 spd is in and it looks pretty good.

Thanks,
Beav
