I've seen a few sets here lately and just wondering what the going rate is? I'm just wondering if I am better off trying to find an NOS set versus finding a used set and having them rechromed.

thanks
Ray

I have original bumper guards on my '70 Elky. They are in really decent shape but I needed to get my front bumper re-chromed. In the Chicago area, all of the platers go by the "book". No matter who I called, it was always the same price. What caught my attention was the fact that the quoted price included bumper guards (which I didn't need replated). I think the up-charge was something like $60.00.

Call around to some local platers and ask for a price for re-chroming your bumper guards. Chances are, they'll have a "book" price to quote you. Compare that to the advertised price for NOS bumper guards versus used ones that need re-plating.

I haven't made a study of it but I don't think anyone makes reproduction '70 bumper guards (just the rubber rub strips) so if you can find a pair of guards, it's something that you might want to jump on.

davidreras a member here, had a set for $100 + shipping. I was going to purchase them but sold the car. They were complete, no rechrome required. Check the want ad boards and do a search, he may still have them.

The NOS replacements that you buy are not the same as the originals. Minor differences but if you are looking for originality, you are better to go with a rechrome. Yes I do have a set of NOS bumper guards available.

I will get some pictures of the bracket in a post soon. I just have to dig the box out of a storage container.

Here are some pictures of the bracket and where it goes. Hopefully these pictures will load. Hope this answers your questions.

is there any way you could post a detailed pic of that upper bracket so i can machine up some !!:confused:you would think the lower 2 would work O.K.??

Personally, I would just go with the two lower bolts and not worry about the upper with the bracket. The original guards that came with the cars do not have the upper bracket and bolt.

Ive NEVER seen that piece on the top used.
theres no way I would put a hole in the top of my bumper!

David,
