View Full Version : white interior
scott70zz Feb 16th, 08, 9:23 PM I was considering going back to my original white interior in my 70. I'm pretty sure I'm going with either astro or fathom blue with black stripes and was thinking about the white interior with the black headliner, package tray, and carpet. I had put an all black interior in the car in the late 80's. So, I'm going to need to replace pretty much everything in the car. What's going to be the cons of going white? What's not reproduced that's white?
Alwhite00 Feb 17th, 08, 8:00 AM I think it was ivory in 70. Kind of a pearl white. If you go with that interior you might want to go with white stripes.

MalibuSeaS Feb 17th, 08, 8:12 AM IMO a light colored gut is much nicer looking than a dark colored one (even though it is harded to keep clean). I feels more inviting and roomier also.

LS_5 Feb 17th, 08, 8:47 AM A correct '70 interior is Pearl. If you go that route, go to Lengendary for the covers! Much better than the others.
The carpet, dash, package tray and headliner are black in a '70 with a pearl interior, as you noted. So you have to swap the door panels, front and rear, and the seat covers and headrests.
The only things that are not re-popped in Pearl are the headrests. You can get them in black, but they have to be dyed pearl to match. Not an easy thing to get right. This is one of my pet peaves with the aftermarket companies, including Legendary. Nobody will make them with the matching covers bacause they're molded. Well, if you make them in black, why can't you make them in the other colors, too??!!??
Alwhite00 Feb 17th, 08, 8:50 AM Armrest also will need to be swapped. Seat backs will need to be changed too.

forcd ind Feb 17th, 08, 9:06 AM if you wanted white as opposed to the off white in 70, they will make up the 70 pattern in white-i had that done in my 70
67T56Elky Feb 17th, 08, 10:57 AM I think they look great against the right color. Unless youre crawling in the car greasy I dont see how they are that difficult to keep clean.

I agree. I have the white interior in my Vette and love it. All I use to keep it clean is an occasional swipe with an Armor All interior wipe (their cleaning wipes- not the silicone coating crap). I am going to install a white (OK, Pearl) interior in my '68 when I get to that point.

scott70zz Feb 17th, 08, 8:20 PM Yeah, I realized that it was actually pearl, I used white as the lingo instead. Thanks for the replies, so it seems everything would be available repop white except the headrests, I think they make covers for them, and the rear armrests, right?
Mstehle Feb 17th, 08, 9:02 PM I went with a white headliner and package tray too. The seats are done, headiner and try need to be put in yet. Imperial blue metallic exterior with white stripes.

They make the headrest covers in black, only, as far as I know. That's what such a bummer. The matching color vinyl is available, obviously, but they won't produce the headcovers that with it. You have to dye them.
The armrests are available in pearl.
69396ss Feb 17th, 08, 9:25 PM There was a post on here a time ago, where somebody painted the Headrests in the "pearl" White and had very good success with it.
I'm sure it's searchable.
And yes, a very nice combination with the Blue exteriors.
VMXRACER Feb 17th, 08, 11:05 PM http://www.supermuscleparts.com You might try these guys. I got white head rest covers from them for my 72.

The "covers" are available in colors, but they have seams that the factory covers don't have...
Joel642DRpost Feb 19th, 08, 4:48 PM Red w/white stripes and the white (Pearl) interior would look great.

...yep, very nice with either blue!
JA70SS Feb 20th, 08, 8:57 PM if the black interior is in good shape,,,ever consider dyeing it white? might save ya some cash, comes out great i did it to a vinyl top once looked awesome and took fine.
ss3966 Mar 6th, 08, 8:59 PM Yes, the interior in 1970 was pearl, as you know. If you want to get away from the greenish tint, you can go with white from 1972 as all fits. I'm doing the same with a 70 el camino - going to 1972 white, which I like better than pearl. For 70 elco's, the only color interiors were black, saddle, and blue, non of which work for me. The white looks wicked cool and inviting over other 1970 elco colors.
