: Need Help Guys! Rear brake issues.
davis95 Feb 16th, 08, 5:54 PM I just finished changing the brake shoes, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder and I'm not getting fluid to the rear brakes. I bled the fronts with no problem and they hold very well. I removed the brake line from one of the rear wheel cylinders and no fluid is making it to the rear cylinders. I then disconnected the rear line (a single line) at the distribution block on the master cylinder end of the line and tried blowing compressed air from there to the disconnected line going to the rear wheel cylinder. Even at 140 psi nothing is making it to the back. I then tried blowing air the other way starting at the wheel cylinder and nothing came out on the front end. I did notice however that the opposite rear wheel was locking up when I blew air through the line. This tells me that the blockage is either in the hard line going from the front distribution block to the rear distribution block or in rear distribution block itself. My thoughts were to just remove the rear distribution block and replace it. I called around and was told the part is obsolete. To make things even worse the fittings going to the block will all have to be cut off in order to change it due to corrosion. Now I'm back trying to think of a way to possibly unplug it to avoid all the extra work and search for parts. Please throw your suggestions my way. Thanks, Doug.

Jerry Briggs Feb 16th, 08, 10:05 PM When you, did you bench bleed the master cylinder did you have fluid coming out both front and rear outlets?
davis95 Feb 16th, 08, 10:15 PM My car has the old single line master cylinder with a distribution block in the line just a few inches down below the master cylinder. I disconnected the line going to the rears at the distribution block and had my son hit the brakes and fluid came out from the rear line orifice normally.
davewho1 Feb 16th, 08, 10:52 PM Doug, is this what you're looking for?
Tee Block - Brass 4 Port Valve Front Drum - Rear Drum
For use on 1966 factory drum cars.
This is the distribution block that is mounted below the single master cylinder which feeds fluid to all four wheels. 1966 cars have a 1/4" master cylinder line and a 1/4" front to rear line. This block is not correct for 1964-65, these cars had a 3/16" front to rear brake line which makes the rear port smaller. This is an exact reproduction down to every detail. It is the correct size shape and thickness, made of brass with a phosphate bracket. These blocks are often missing, thrown away, or stripped.

davis95 Feb 17th, 08, 1:33 AM Actually the one I need is the one mounted in the rear over the axle. Do they make those too? That would be great. Thanks for the link Dave.
davis95 Feb 17th, 08, 1:42 AM I just pulled up the site and looked at the pictures and they don't list the one for the rear. I am thinking that the one they do have may work in place of the rear one as well though. I'll do a little more research tomorrow and see what I come up with. Thanks again.
Cameano Feb 17th, 08, 2:48 AM Your rear hose is plugged up. I've seen it a few times when resurrecting a car that's sat for a few years. I'd recommend changing all of the rubber hoses. Try cracking the line right before the rubber hose, it should flow from the fitting easy enough.
davis95 Feb 17th, 08, 2:59 AM I tried to remove the rear hose with no luck so far. It is corroded onto the hard line coming from the front so badly that it looks like I'll have to cut it off in order to replace it. It is also corroded to the rear distribution block the same way. If I have to start cutting all of this off then I'm commited to replacing everything from the end of the hard line on back. I'm still hoping there's an easier way.
