I switched my Chevelle over from a column shift to a floor shift(original counsel and horseshoe shifter). I purchased a new column and now the horn don't work, I used a light tester to do some checking and this is what I came up with, I removed the horn cover on the steering wheel and pulled the wires out of the little plastic stub that is mounted on the end of the column, I put the light tester down it so it would make contact with the brass end and then touched the other end to bare metal and thats when the horns worked. Forgot to mention this is on a 69 Chevelle. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

It's been a while since I worked on the horn but I know that the wire has to be just right or the horn won't work right. If memory serves there should also be a spring in there to. Make sure that the wires are routed right on the shroud when you install it. Good luck.

The steering colum makes a ground path to close the horn relay. If you ground the contact inside the colum and the horn works , the problem is with the buttons or conection from them. Gary

I would get all the correct parts for the horn switch, maybe out of the old column. If you shorted the horn relay wire to ground and it works then you don't have proper contact from the switch to the horn button. The parts are cheap and I think you are almost there.
Good luck.
