This is my first post (of probably many!) in the interior section, and if this is somewhat of a noob question sorry! I just picked up a 72 Chevelle, two door coupe with buckets. The interior is complete less carpet, but in old weathered condition. The seats themselves look OK (maybe a little foam work but not bad), but need new covers of course. I guess what I'm trying to figure out here is what all it would take to make this thing look really nice inside. I could probably reuse almost all of the parts that are there, but I'd like it to all look nice together if possible. I'm looking at a "Super Interior Kit" from Ground up (link below). I know this kit doesn't address the steering column or dash area, but what else would I be short of here? Any experience with these kits good or bad?

That kit is basically $1000, I'd like to keep this whole thing under $2000. My instrument panel is in pretty good shape, dash pad is cracked and needs to be replaced. The steering column appears OK, it's got a cheesy aftermarket steering wheel that I'd like to replace. Also, on a car with buckets, would there have been a console from the factory? This one does NOT have that.

Thanks for the help guys!

Keep in mind that once you start replacing old with new there is no place to stop. Plan on replacing it all. I have studied everones pricing and Ground up seems to be the best value as I will need it all. I am a good ways down the road before I get to the interior so I am going to let the dust settle on the Legendary/PUI debate. As Legendary becomes a bigger player in this market I have hopes the competion from Legendary and its suppliers will force PUI to raise its quality level therefore creating excellent value for the buyer.

We have the best 2 swap meets for our area in April, Ft. Worth and Pate. Make a list of the very best price on every item you need from whatever source. As you walk these swap meets or search ads be able to spot a good deal. A word of advise, go early. You will have to beat me to it.

Id see what it would cost to upgrade the headliner to the headliner kit with the sunvisors included. that way you dont have to find a upholstery shop to sew it for you. If the dash isnt too bad you might be able to have it skinned at a upholstery shop. wont be correct, but it sure beats looking at the cracked dash. jim

Jim,
Ground Up can offer you our Deluxe headliners (which include new covered sail panels) and visors made in matching material.
Thanks
Ron

Ron, thats the kit I bought for my 70 chevelle. Im just waiting for a nice warm day to install it in the car. The last headliner I did in my elcamino. the glue I used for the sail panels started letting go. Thats why I went with the kit with everything already to install. I cant wait to see how it turns out! I did the seats a couple months ago. jim
