The trim tag could be a givaway ? what's the trim code ?
I'm guessing the original engine is gone ?
An original Big block would (more than likely) mean SS
An original round gage dash (although could be optioned on Malibu)
12 bolt rear with F41 (boxed lower arms and sway bar) and Power disc brakes
Rag joint unique to BB but you could get SS 350 in 71 ?
There are lots of other clues, I'm sure others will chime in :D

how can i find the trim code?? car came with power discs (front)

car was pieced together by the perv. owner. I dropped in a 454/th-400 looking for a 12 bolt. the reason for this thread is because the car has an ss hood (non cowl) an you can see the stripes but were painted over. but it has the malibu dash. motor/trans not org. is there a tag anywhere on the car/body where i might get some info??

thanks for the info anychevy!:beers:

how can i find the trim code??
Drivers side on top of the cowl area, only visable with the hood open
See examples of trim (cowl) tags on
http://www.chevellestuff.com/index.htm
But the sweep style speedo and the 10 bolt rear are definate clues to being a malibu not an SS

I doubt someone would pull the SS dash an replace it with a sweep dash, but who cares, restore it as a malibu...be different!

Almost impossible without a build sheet, but being a 10 bolt car ? My "guess" is a 307 or 350 2 barrel
IMHO an nice original or restored 71 malibu would be a more desireable car than a half assed SS clone.
Leave the 454 and domed hood for clearance and make it a sweet sleeper
