I put in my new continental 2200 stall converter in my 71 and still am not able to peel out or burn out. I can feel a better launch with the new converter, but still don't understand whats wrong. I have no aftermarket rear traction upgrades but a possi. I'm running a 350 which was rebuilt about a year ago. It's got a 600cfm vac/sec holley(second to lightest spring installed), Performer RPM, 268h comp cam, headers, hei dist. with adv. curve kit(gold springs). Also a turbo 400 and 3.73 gears. When the engine was rebuilt, the heads were only resurfaced because the guy at the machine shop said they were in good condition and had good 2.02 valves already when i bought the car. Also, I tried power locking and that didn't work, just keeps going. Just won't break tracktion.
Any suggestions?

Hmm only thing that really seems to stand out is that yellow spring (think that's the second lightest) is soft. I would try the purple seems to work for me, in a very similar combo. Except I have 2.42 gears and 3000 stall converter and no problem frying tires. Also check timming, not enough or too much could really hurt low end power.

Thats in Drive. Would be the same as if I left it in 1st gear wouldn't it?

Check your timing. Not initial, but total advance (with the vacuum line disconnected). Also check what RPM you have full total timing at (rev it slowly while watching the timing light).
You should have 36* total timing with all the timing in before 3000 RPM. Somewhere between 2500 and 3000 RPM is good.

You should be able to peel street tires with ease. Sounds like the car is lacking down low. Is it soggy on the bottom but pulls hard in the midrange? What is the cranking compression? It should be 150psi at a minimum with 175psi being optimum for 93pump gas. If the ring seal and valve sealing are good you can raise the cranking compression by advancing the cam-just be sure to check valve to piston clearance as you go. The last 350 I built pumped 195psi with an extreme energy 260 4X4 cam installed straight up with 9.3-1 static compression and it frys 35inch mud terrains with ease. It is a little sensitive with fuel though. Keep tuning, you'll figure it out. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hey onebadass71 (name?)
It definitely sounds like a tuning issue at this point. I see you've been around since may or so, but I haven't seen ya, so welcome!! I'm always happy to see more So Cal TC'ers. I'd love to see your car and maybee giving you a hand at getting those tires burning. Shoot me an e-mail if your interested.
Best of luck,

Sounds like a pretty good No/E combo to me. I'd work on learning to cut good lights and be happy!
