: Pushrod length and P/V clearance

So far on my engine build today I got to check the length of the pushrods. So far it looks like this:

Intake-8.125in, exhaust 9.1875in. Now, they don't make pushrods in these exact measurements...so I'm thinking I should go to the closest SHORTER one because if I went to the closest longer one, I would probably bend things. Is this a correct way of thinking? Or am I missing something here?

Also since I really didn't have real pushrods I didn't feel I could really check piston to valve clearance yet, but I know when we measured the pushrods and were cranking the engine over that there were no problems as far as physically hitting anything. Would that mean I'm in the clear? The specs are

Brodix Race Rite heads with 115cc chamber, SRP p/n 212136, Comp Pro Magnum Roller Rockers and the cam has .600'' lift on the exhaust, less on the intake...know that's not a for sure measurement but thought I'd ask since I really can't test yet.

Anyway, I hope to get pics soon, and order pushrods and have it buttoned up by next weekend!

You need to know what your clearance is, if you had .005 valve to piston clearance the engine would still turn over! I used silly putty on the piston and snugged up 4 or 5 head bolts around the cyl I was checking, rolled it over and measured the putty after slicing it with a scale.
As far as pushrod length goes I think they come in .050 increments so pick the closest one, a longer pushrod shouldn't bend anything, it just alters the valvetrain geometry. Unless you go crazy with it! My experience is all with big block stuff so if I have erred here hopefully someone will correct me! :D

You HAVE to know what your exact p/v clearance is...especially on the exhaust...this is too critical of a measurement, especially the exhaust clearance...

I bought my pushrods from Canton and they make them to the exact measurement....usually pushrods come in .025 increments so going to 8.15 and 9.2 would be fine..

good luck.

P.S. Did I mention that the exhaust p/v clearance is extremelly important smile.gif

with the heads on...you will need to remove the valve spring..set up a dial indicator on the valve. Check the P/V from about 15 degrees BTDC to 15 degrees ATDC

I will check it then definately when I get the pushrods. Any reccomendations for a good kind? I don't know if on something like this if there is a difference from getting a Summit brand VS like Comp or something...thanks.
