I've had a few inquiries on the 276/284F10 solid flat tappet. When does Lunati figure on making a run of the Best BBC street/strip cam there is?

Well OK, maybe not the best, but ONE of the best. smile.gif And the world wants to know when they can buy one!

Second Q: Lcoal guy is building a 454 in a 69 ragtop. 3.08s/ mild stall/good compression 10:1+. We had some discussion on phasing the cam. Your 280/88H12 to be specific.

What can he expect in differential, if any, by installing the cam +6 versus straight up. Both in terms of driveability AND 60' times at the track?

Phased the 276/84 as you indicated, all of +6, and the results have been absolutely stellar. Both highway milage ( 15+ at reasonable speed), and track ( 117+mph).

But wonder if the same would be the case in a lower rpm application with a hyd cam.

One more Q , re the 276, assume that in a mildly geared stick shift car, that a 112 lsa version will be a bit smoother right off idle, i.e., letting the clutch up at low rpm coming off a stoplight.

My only gripe is that it doesnt sound quite as ornery as the orignal L88 cam at idle! ;) CLOSE! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Lunati has to update their website and get on with the marketing thing. They and Harold have the capability to unseat the #1 boys with grinds like the 276/284F10. Sorry, but it flat DOMINATES the XE line, and seems to be easier on parts.

Y'all need a marketing consultant Sir? Figure about 25-40 hours of my time and the website will be right! Even at $125/hr, that's a good deal!

I'm with you on that one gene.. lunati's website bites. Its not well laid out and looks like I put it together using MS word..
there is no mention of a shake-up (a good one!) in the cam design department either.. and you can't really tell what cams are the new ones aside from that little green "new!" deal.. but even then, its hard to tell.
on a side note, say I have like PN xxx valvesprings, and a cam notes to have PN xxxx how different should they be before you have to switch springs?

Matt, hope you're not asking me that Q? All I can say is I "fudged" a bit on that. I use the L88 spring setup, which gives a bit less seat, and a bit more nose than Harold recommended. But they don't float! 110/350. Seems to hold it all together at 7000 just fine.

I was looking into V6 cams and dismissed Lunati solely due to their website.

How is their tech service for cam recommendations?

Glenn,
My best advice is to not base your buying decision solely on a companies website. Many companies in the high performance industry are fairly small operations, often started and managed by every-day guys like you and me. A glamorous website may be the last thing a guy is going to spend a lot of time, effort and bucks on if he is working in the factory 12 to 16 hours a day making quality parts. Had a guy tell me one time that he was impressed by a high performance manufacturer because they had a huge modern building with landscaping, etc. Sadly, that particular manufacturer is no longer in business, even though they did make pretty good parts.

And how does one get hold of this " 1 employee"
Mr. Brookshire is his name I believe. I would love to talk to him on a recommendation but hate like heck to pester him seeing as he is probably busy. Wonder if he has a direct fax line or email so he could answer when convenient for him.

He should have the shop make a few 276/284F10s, 288/296F10s, and bbc 280/288H12s. Those cams fit alot of bbc applications it seems.

I just went to the Lunati website and it was different than when I was there a few weeks ago. I could actually read the specs, whereas before I couldn't.

Harold is undoubtedly very busy in his new position at Lunati. My recommendation is to send him a fax with all your info and leave room on the page for him to write a response. Fax number at Lunati is 901.795.9411. Be sure to put your fax number on the page so he can return the info to you. Sometimes the return fax number that the machine automatically prints at the top of the page is not readable.

Harold, if you do run into this thread, forget about the questions I asked, I suspect I know the answers anyway. You need to spend what little time you have here answering cam recommenation questions!

Thanks. And thanks again for that HOT cam you sold me! graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Gene,

If I have my way at our meeting tomorrow, there will be lots of BB276/284F10's and BB288/296F10's to go around. Same with some of my hydraulics, too. There is NO reason why they cannot be supplied today, except book-keeping/paperwork ones.
I haven't been around for the last week because when I am designing cams, my computer is physically converted into a DOS-machine, and does not know what a modem or the Internet is.
I have designed a full line(12 to 15) of hydraulics(to beat the Xtreme Energys) and another full line of solids(15 or so) to do the same thing. I have done about 8 Street rollers, same thing, and 4 to 10 roller cams each in .4164", .4414", .4467", .456". .4854", .5148", and .5301" lobe lifts.
The .5301" starts off at 307 at .020, 276 at .050, 198.5 at .200, and not too bad on acceleration rates, either.
I can't tell the 'seat' durations yet, but the first hydraulic I'm going to make is a 227/235 at .050, .3223/.3363 lobe lift, and the new '276/284F'(at some height) is 243/251 at .050, 155/164 at .200, and .3472/.3613 lobe lift.
I've been working 3 or 4 hours a night, except for Wednesday night, which was "Kill Bill" night....
I'll try to stick around more, but if I'm not here, I'm probably designing cams......

thanks for your support,

UDHarold

(Whatever happened on the race? Who do I owe a cam to?)

Sir, do you mean the cam giveaway at our show this summer!? We didn't go through with it since UD was in an 'indeterminant status'.

I still have the "coupon" in my possession. Always looking at the 'big picture' I am prepared to pitch Lunati on how they can gain market share from the big DOG, using these shows as a inexpensive way of getting the word out. I'm hopeful we can use the giveaway then, as well as get some marketing materials from Lunati.

"Big dog" seems to have a lock on shows, I'm hoping your marketing folks see my logic and step up in a big way for both our show, and other shows filled with BIG BLOCK motors!

BTW, I "sold" two cams when I raced Friday night. They couldn't believe that lil' 439ci ran that good. With old heads to boot! ( btw, the racers I was hanging with are a very religious group, and I told them I thought you were also quite involved in the church, fyi, so if someone calls you from Rochester NY and asks, you know).

With warm regards and best wishes for your future success.....

Give me the ear of a marketing person down there and let me pitch them on my thoughts for gaining market share!

good luck at that meeting harold. I need a cam and hope to get one of yours. If I can just call lunati and get it, that would be great. I'll just need to get in contact with you to know which cam to get.
