i'm gonna swap out a bad oem ignition control module for a good used one.what kind of grease is in the packets that come with a new control module? is di-electric grease the same as the silicone grease? thanks.

Yes, but you don't want to INSULATE the module, you're using the goo to help increase the heat transfer to the aluminum housing.

Yep, heat-transfer is the name of the game. Just put a bunch of the Dia-Electric goo under it.

i bought a big can of "the goo" at my local autozone a while back..i finally need it!

Go to any computer place and get a tube of heatsink compound. Computers use the same stuff to thermally connect the CPU to the cooling fan/heatsink.

you can get the silicone dialectic grease at any radio shack

Given a choice...I'd spring for the heat sink compound. Thanks for the reminder that the stuff exists!

Yes,
It's called thermal joint compound. The good stuff is white, and a pain to get off your fingers.
Although it seems odd to heatsink the module to the hot distributor body, the module would actually overheat if it was insulated.
