Is there any diagrams out there that show the correct procedure for paiting the rear panel black, as far as where the body colors stop and the black takes over. One part in question is the thin strip you can see behind the bumper after its mounted, should that be black or the color of the car.

I don't know of a diagram, but I bet Dale will pop in here shortly with a few photos.
This is how I did it, & others can chime in if I am wrong. The black goes between the tail light bezels, above the wider lower molding, & then runs above the thinner upper molding. When you paint it above the upper molding, the correct way is to continue the black until the trunk weatherstrip gutter lip begins.
ALL 67's coupes & sedans had the black above the upper molding in order to maintain the continuity of the molding paint scheme. Now when you close your trunk lid, you do not want to see the black paint through the gaps on the sides where the lid meets the 1/4 panel. So if you look closely when the lid is up, there is actually some factory indents in the rear panel where the black paint should follow. The paint should go about 2 1/2 inches above the upper molding near the corners of the trunk lid.
And finally to answer your question, that thin strip between the lower molding & the bumper should be body color.
If no one posts a pic, I will go take one of my car tomorrow.
Hope this helps.
