: RPM intake swap complete
mr 4 speed Jun 26th, 04, 6:37 PM Thanks to Dane/Doggy69 and his father Paul for the hook up on a mint RPM intake.
Anyway,it fit fine with the factory CI aircleaner, and was only 3/8 taller than the Performer 2-O I took off.Hope to have some timeslips soon graemlins/thumbsup.gif
The article in Hotrod magazine convinced me when I saw the RPM was worth 29 HP/20 ft./lbs torque over the Performer on a 454 HO crate motor with oval port heads..heck,if my MPH goes from 103.4 to 105 I'd be happy smile.gif
..and maybe 1 tenth quicker would be nice too ;)
but who knows, the track is a humbling place, maybe nothing will change :D
I figure I need to get a few more runs in before I swap to 3.31's to see how much the RPM is truly worth vs. the Performer.
doggy69 Jun 26th, 04, 7:40 PM Glad to help. Just a few questions Chris what was the original paint scheme of your car? and is your car yanking the fronts in the pic on prestage?
MadMarv Jun 26th, 04, 7:50 PM I never noticed you had an ultradyne tucked in there until I just re-read the combo. How long has that been in? I'm also curious to know what you think you would see in a performance gain if you were to go to like 3.31s?
Matt
mr 4 speed Jun 26th, 04, 8:08 PM Dane,my car is #78 black cherry (original color)..and yes, that is my car on the prestage.com website.
Gene/L88 took that picture.
The color looks funky in the pic due to me trying to lighten the pic as it was originally very dark.
The other pic in my sig is what black cherry looks like.
Matt, the UD grind has been in there day one, since I built the motor over 2 years ago.
I have no idea what going from 2.73's to 3.31's would net ET wise..I'll just have to wait.I don't even want to guess.

I love the fact that you're wringing that combo out for all it's worth. graemlins/thumbsup.gif Tuning! That's what it's about. graemlins/beers.gif The big  gears can wait!

1.74 60 ft typical, and 12.86 typical at 104.2 mph typical
Best of 1.68 60 ft 12.79 at 105.0 mph
Hey Chris, Glad you got it done, hope to see ya soon at the track...
Tom
mr 4 speed Jun 26th, 04, 9:13 PM Tom,I'm hoping for that MPH just from the intake swap..I think my combo has 105-106 in it.Even though it has 2.06/1.72 valves,it still has 10.5 to 1 compression..it has 210 lbs/cranking compression too. This motor has some cylinder pressure. You where MPHing in the 104 and change zone with an 8.9 to 1 compression 454 w/3.55's many years ago correct?
I agree that your ET prediction is certainly possible.I do have Hoosier QT Pro's now too graemlins/thumbsup.gif
MadMarv Jun 26th, 04, 9:21 PM The QTPs (what size?) should take you to a new level. I didn't realize your compression was 10.5. Have you ever had any problems with that and iron heads?
Whats your DCR? I am still on the line between QTP's and ET streets for my move to 28" territory-- what influenced your decision?
I was thinking of bumping my CR from 10.14:1 to 10.5:1 with a steel shim gasket over the winter, maybe have the heads shaved a bit for 10.7:1, but a gasket swap and a trip to the machine shop are different animals.
Thanks,
Matt
mc71454 Jun 26th, 04, 9:34 PM True, only my best mph's in that ET range of the motor/combo you are talking about were in evening air of about 50 degrees. That's the only reason I am coming up a bit short in my mph prediction considering you will likely be racing during the heat of the day.
Kind of a friendly guess that's all. I certainly
hope you exceed those guesses smile.gif
Would you consider coming up on a Wed, meeting me at the track and you could stay over at my house after racing, I'll take off work the next day or half day at least if you have to take off early the next day. You could get 5 or 6 night time passes on that baby for $20 and compete in a bracket race. a bunch of us have been succesful in nudging some better track prep out of LVD on Wed nights as well so the traction is getting better.
My new bests took place on a Sunday afternoon a few weeks ago, No new bests on Wed nights since I have to add 200 pounds to the trunk and soften the timing curve to compete in the class I am in where the cutoff is 11.000. it is ok especially since I joined the points this year and took over first place last Wed and hope to continue in order to make it to the Braket Finals in Dover Delaware this September.

mc71454 Jun 26th, 04, 9:36 PM Matt you have mail...
mr 4 speed Jun 26th, 04, 9:46 PM Tom,I like that idea graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Let me see what I can come up with.I'll talk to You soon.
I appreciate the friendly guess, and who knows, your MPH prediction might be right on too.Again, the track is a humbling place.
I certainly wouldn't be upset with a 105 MPH with the intake and 3.31's as you predicted
IMHO,the 'ole Performer was hurting my MPH-I'll soon find out.
Matt,I have no problems running pump gas, even with 40* total timing (I run 36-38*)
My pistons have a .100 dome and piston to deck clearance is tight, and I have closed chamber #215 heads (101 cc's)
DCR is 8.5 I believe.
My tires are 26 x 9.5
I've never tuned this car either.Just exhaust changes,carb swaps,and now intakes smile.gif

Thinks there's 105 in that mill somewhere, maybe this is it! Especially in some cool night air!
