BTW, I used to play paintball. In fact I was on a semi-pro team with many, many sponsors. Free guns, free paint, free uniforms etc.. Problem was when you get that good [ and I say that with humility] it becomes more like a business with all the internal politics etc.
That's why I like my Chevelle, I do my own thing and nobody's opinion matters but my own.
When this Chevelle fever blows over I think I'd like to become a pilot.

Gene Chas Jun 1st, 99, 6:30 AM Kinda funny how firearms and cars go together. I read an article on Bill Ruger ( Ruger firearms). Bill actually designed a car and in the article Bill went on to say how firearms people are usually car people ( I think he said "guys", but I'm being PC) and it's something I never thought of but true. I just assembled a AR with Colt SS freefloat barrel and Bushmaster lower. This is no BS, the firearm holds 1" @100 and less than 2" at 200 (w/handloads ). My old rem .222 can't do that. Huwah! Now if I can get my Chevelle to go together like that !
This may seems strange but I built the AR for my son ( he's only 2) beacuse something tells me that by the time he's old enough to handle a firearm like that, they'll be outlawed. What ever happened to personal responsibilty? Geez.

Rick69C4 Jun 1st, 99, 7:16 AM Guns and Chevelle's; imagine that? I have a F.F.L. and deal in collectable guns. My main interests in collectable guns are the Browning Belgium .22 Rifles. I belong to the Browning Collectors Assn. they are a real nice bunch of people also! I have displayed my collection at the Tulsa Gun Show in april(3500 tables in one building) and have done quite well there. I am lucky enough to call one of the Belgium engravers from F.N. a friend and have learned alot from him. Guns and Chevelle's, aint it bout as good as it gets! Rick
Gene Chas Jun 1st, 99, 7:27 AM Rick,
I rebuilt a cracked stock for my bro-in-law on a Browning .22. Finding the through bolt was a chore. What a nice little gun. Unfortunately his had a real bad barrel insert job done to it.
Raven Jun 1st, 99, 8:16 AM I just wanted to say that I agree with the hypothesis of guns and cars are usually together.. I am the same way, I hunt and shoot all the time, and have guns just because I can. I rather enjoy target shooting with handguns, too.
There must be some fascination with the need for speed and guns?... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

briann Jun 1st, 99, 10:40 PM Besides working on my 65 SS. My girlfreind has a 66 SS nova that Im in charge of. The Nova looks cool but as we all know chevelles make better hot rods because the Nova's sterring wheel doesnt feel like its connected to anything. In the winter I ride snowmobiles (Ski-doo's) and In the summer I can be found sking behind my Mastercraft ski boat. I have three children ages 15,13,12 and I own and operate a small Insurance brokerage. This is my first Chevy, I did Mustangs before, But I have always loved Chevelles. I bought my car off this web page and have owned it since Aug 98.
dude67 Jun 1st, 99, 11:19 PM My other hobby is airplanes! The company I work for has 13 Boeing 727 cargo planes in europe working around the clock for DHL worldwide express. I am a outstation manager in East Midlands, England. I tend to and nurse along 8 aircraft a night. troubleshooting and fixing them. It's exciting and stressing at the same time. 71boo Jun 2nd, 99, 5:15 AM Here goes: I have a 71 "Maliboo", my first rebuild. I have dreamed of owning a Chevelle since I around age 13. I am a Chevy lover. My daily driver is a 94 Cavalier Z24. Anyway, I have a bachelor's in business and work as an account exec (fancy name for a salesman). I am also a musician which is great $$ as a part-time gig. I use the extra funds to finance my project. That way, the ms. can't complain because I can buy my Flowmasters without having the phone get cut off, haha, this is one expensive hobby!! But it is nice to see all the different walks of life that enjoy Chevelles, they are great automobiles.
Joe G Jun 2nd, 99, 6:52 AM OK guys, I can't believe out of all the posts there is only one other golfer!! I bought my Chevelle to take my mind off the game. I've always been in and around cars,(own an undercar repair facility),but golf got a grip on me about 12 years ago. It got so competetive that it was becoming a job. My wife suggested I get our longtime dream car, boy was she right, I've been buried in Chevelle from head to toe and wouldn't have it any other way. The side benefit to this is, I have taken my mind off of golf. Now when I play, I'm playing lights out!! No pressure anymore. Go figure!
JimmyMac70SS Jun 2nd, 99, 7:10 AM Between the Chevelle and working around the house, the remainder of my 'free time" is spent hunting and fishing and being a volunteer firefighter. When I retire in about 30 years I'll have to find something else to fill the daytime hours....or....I can just play with the Chevelle more!
283v8 Jun 2nd, 99, 10:34 AM Holy mackeral - real people out there (and one golfer). And I thought Chevelle owners were just dumb motorheads (tongue in cheek)

elcamino Jul 4th, 99, 5:29 AM Hobbies, hmmm. Well besides working for the Michigan DOT for the last 27 years doing route surveys for highway improvements all over the state, I also have a business selling lubricants. They seem to take up most of my time. I like to travel and my job sure gives me that opportunity, like over 18,000 miles on my 99 work suburban since Oct 98 and thats only working 4 days a week with over 5 weeks vacation in that time span. I also am a volunteer with the US Geological Survey Earth Science Corps updating topographic maps in my area. Our area was recently named (approx 5yrs ago) a Nat'l Historic Park and the maps provide for some interesting treks trying to recover old historic data.
I have a restored 64 Impala and a 99 GMC Sierra Z71 Ext. Cab. Looking for another Chevelle or El Camino to drive, only this time its going to be a turn key purchase. I don't care how much, just tired of working on them.
BTW-The very first new car I purchased was in April of 1970, Fathom Blue Chevelle SS454 LS5, TH400, A/T, tilt, Console, posi, buckets, tinted glass, no cowl induction cause I though at the time it looked ugly with the white stripes. Traded it in in 72 cause I could not afford the 10mpg and high insurance. If I only knew? I still have the original sale's brochure.
[This message has been edited by elcamino (edited 07-04-99).]
Scooter Jul 4th, 99, 10:51 AM Well, I'm a full time mechanic, still work on the cars when I get home, right now the wife's Mustang is in there for a new Painless Wiring harness, then my Camaro will get some TLC. It seems to never end. I also spend time in my veggie garden (I start seeds in the winter). Then there is the massive landscaping we did to the backyard. Got to stack about 1300 rataining wall blocks, not finished yet, but close. Then I'm a coach for my 7 yr old son's baseball team, play softball on a Co-ed team with my wife, and drinking beer.
No guns here either except a pellet/bb gun. Shot the neighbor's dog in the foot last summer with a .22 when we went to their cabin up in northern MN.(Long story) That was enough guns for me for awhile. I'm a pretty good trap shooter, tho.
Did I mention beer? I like beer. Cold beer, Budweiser........something's calling me.....I feel thirsty.
Oh, & BTW, I like beer, too.

I play harmonica and sing in a blues band. Just got back to Indianapolis from a gig in Grand Haven, MI at 8 this morning, slept as much as I could (not enough) and now I'm going out to work on the Chevelle.
My only wish is that we could get the Chevelle running very soon. It's fun to work on it, but it'd be real nice to actually drive it.
SoCalRat Jul 6th, 99, 6:12 PM Other than working on my Chevelle and school(takes up most of time) I love to jet ski. My friend and I ski everywhere we can and he's getting sponsored by Yamaha so we get free stuff. Also I love surfing and bodyboarding. Can't get any better than God's waves. Starting to play drumsand also starting a car club for teens and guys in their 20's to carry on the tradition of hot rodding. Lots goin' on this summer.
Lynn Robinson Jul 8th, 99, 7:21 PM My other hobbie besides our 64 Chevelle SS is Baseball. I manage Babe Ruth Baseball teams in the Concord Ca. area. It takes up most of my free time from March thru August. We also do a lot of water sports (watersking and wakeboards) during the summer.
Skier_Bob Jul 8th, 99, 8:51 PM Even though I owned Muscle Cars first (71 340 Duster & 1972 Gran Torino Sport Cobra Kit w/351Cleveland) my first passion (outside of family) is Waterskiing. I ski the slalom ski course and barefoot ski behind my MasterCraft Ski Boat (LT1 Corvette engine 328 hp) at least 3 times a week. Skimming across the water at 42 mph on one foot gives me that same SE grin as when I punch the pedal to the floor in my 71 SS454!! As far as the correlation between guns and Chevelle owners..... although I don't collect guns, I have belonged to a major US "gun club for the past 16 years -- THE US MARINE CORPS --OORAH!! Glad to hear of all your hobbies!! This place is great!
------------------
I too am an avid wakeboarder that converted over from slalom skiing 3 years ago. I have a boat and can launch in 5 minutes from my house. I get out at least 3 times a week and often go out at 6 AM before work. What a way to start the day!! I coach girls softball and play basketball and run with my wife in the mornings. Wakeboarding is a blast! You have got to try it!

Coppertop Jul 12th, 99, 9:20 AM Wow Patrick, this is some thread you started!
Well besides working on my favorite car ('70 Malibu --#'s matching) I enjoy restoring old car and home radios. And helping friends install aftermarket audio equipment in their cars(I'm an auto radio repair tech). I also design electronic "novelty" circuits for the above. If I get time, I'll have the only Chevelle that plays "Give me fuel, give me fire" by Metallica when you insert the key in the ignition http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
A bit of webpage design too,--I'm working on Team Chevelle's radio webpages.

Chris R Jul 15th, 99, 6:08 PM For me (besides Chevelles and muscle cars), Im into Model Railroading big time. I havent built a layout yet (no space) but its is a future plan. I like HO scale.
I also like radio controlled cars, although my RC10 has been collecting dust on a shelf for a few years now. (spending $ on the Chevelle)

michael j Jul 16th, 99, 7:41 AM I'm really shocked that virtually noone has mentioned motorcycles. If speed is what you want than you get more bang for your buck outta a bike than a car anyday. My 84 v65 Magna pulls 100hp on a dyno (rear wheel) BONE STOCK! and the bike is 15 years old. Haven't dragged it but I'm guessing solid 11's in the quarter. BONE STOCK (this is based on the fact that when the bikes were first produced Honda heralded the fact that they had a professional rider by the name of Pee Wee Gleason pull 10's in the quarter). Let's see any stock car that you and I can afford do that.
I now have three bikes (all Honda v4 engines), two of which were rescued for a pitance and brought roaring back to life. My first rescue (and first bike) is a faithful little v30 Magna that hauls my butt into Manhattan everyday; summer/winter/rain/shine. What a strong and faithful little bike. The most recent rescue was an Interceptor 700 that had languished abandonned on the streets of Newark, NJ for over a year and a half. The bike had been abused and neglected but remarkably it was complete and not stripped bare while sitting on the sidewalk for all that time. I tracked down the owner, who had moved to Boston, and hounded him to sell me the bike. 3 or 4 months and $350 later it was mine. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
Another obsession that occupied my life for close to 6 years was a hand sewn (by me) recreation of Clive Barker's "Pinhead" from Hellraiser for wearing out on various Halloweens. I also created the full head of nails makeup from scratch. Aside from winning unnumerable contests (over $2500 in purses and prizes) I have also been fortunate enough to meet Clive Barker and the actor Doug Bradley while in costume.
Next I turn my sights to H.R. Giger's "Alien".
Happy Halloween.
