Hi My 72 Chevelle 1/4 window doesnt crank up without assist with hand pulling up. What usually is the problem and how can I fix it. Thanks for the help. I searched threads without a hit.

If you can turn the window handle without the window moving I would think the crank gear could be stripped. If it is just hard to turn then you should grease the inner workings. Either way you will need to remove the panel to work on it.

The window regulator may be out of adjustment. My experience is let someone who knows what they are doing adjust it. First, as noted before, take off the panel and see if there is something obvious or it just needs some lubrication. Good luck.

As mentioned, pull the panel and then watch it while you run it up and down. You should be able to see whats causing the problem. If something broke, it will be down in the bottom of the quarter uaually.

Thanks for the info. I will look into the inner workings. They seem to sell a lot of guide rollers for these. Is that a common problem? Thanks

I have a broken roller. They are nylon and get brittle with age. But my window will fall off the track and fall into the quarter if I accidentally let it. If you're not in that rough a shape, it might be something else. I just took the little vent out of the door jamb and looked at the workings that way. Easier than taking the panel off but if you had to replace anything in there, taking off the panel is the way to do that.

Tim.
