: Is this part of my seats?

I finally got around to 'attempting' to recover the buckets in my 67. I got as far as removing screws and trim, and when I took the metal backs off, I found some type of insulation looking stuff, loaded with mouse poop!

I know this car sat, unmoved, for years, as I had found the same stuff under the rear seat and up in the headliner (all with the mouse droppings)

Is this stuff actually part of the seats, or did the critters carry it there for their nests? Oh, and in a previous post, I thought $175 a seat was high for recovering. Well, I'm starting to rethink that. This is not going to be an easy job :(

Doesn't look like seat material to me. The seat foam is usually yellowish color. It looks like the backing material from the carpet or something else they dragged in there? One quick seat tip. Do them one at a time as to have a reference to how they go back together. It can be a PITA but I've done worse jobs.

Your build sheet's probably in little chewed-up pieces in that mess, too.:(

I took pictures of every part of the seat, just so I'll have some reference when trying to get those hog rings in place. I left the drivers seat intact, also as reference.

I'm still wondering if I should even attempt this myself. Even getting the old covers off looks to be a real PITA. These things are tight!

I had some mice carry small bits of dog food through the exhaust and fill a set of headers on a 70 amx once. I was lining the timings marks and could hear it falling back down in the headers when I started wondering what the heck.

I've tackled about every car restoration chore but recoveing my buckets kicked my a s s. I had to give up and bring them to an upholstery shop.

I agree. One of the hardest things I've ever done on my car.

Try covering the seat with a thin plastic, similar to a dry cleaning bag. This helps with sliding the covers on.

this is totally normal stuffing to fill out the sides, maybe a small mouse help, this is nothing i found three giant rats dead all dry up in the back off the seat, the only way in is when the seat is folded, i think they where trap when the seat was pull back to normal position. i bought this car in elpaso texas, for 150 dollars, turn out to be a copo car i would never show the picture, the car is that bad, it would hurt the value if you had seen what the car had been though, in it 38 years on its life. i have my pencil out with a big eraser on it to rub off those years , i sure enjoy going from one extreme to the other ,,,,,
