Does anyone know how to remove the guts of the trunk latch assembly? (the part the key fits into)
I have new trunk latch key assebly but the body is 90 degrees differnt configuration than the old one.
Just thinking I coud use the old casing and install new tumbler assembly.
Just not sure how to get it apart.

Easiest way is to take it to a locksmith, because you will need a new cap to complete the alteration.

1. Tear cap off of trunk lock using a pair of side cutters.

2. Save the shutter assembly and two springs.

3. Place working key in lock and rotate clockwise (CW) 180 degrees or until the cam stop clears the lock body.

4. Pull out slightly (1/8 inch) and rotate it CCW 45 degrees and pull straight out.

Note: The spring and tailpiece should be removed before dis-assembly.

To re-assemble:

1 Place outer casing in left hand with spring hanger facing upward.

2. Insert inner plug into casing rotating back and forth to clear stops on casing, turn CCW until stop.

3. Place two springs in holes, balance shutter assembly on top, place new cap on top and push cap down until seated. Turn cap and lock assembly over on flat surface and using a screwdriver bend over the four prongs on the cap. Install new gasket.

4. Hook spring's inner hook on inside, rotate outer hook CW until the hook slips behind the outer casing spring hook. Place tailpiece in center groove of lock plug end and your done.

A locksmith will take about 2 minutes to do this and with the cap, he will charge you about 10 bucks. You will end up sticking the screwdriver thru the palm of your hand and the spring will rip the cuticle on your finger off. This will result in a trip to the hospital and a tetnaus shot; cost about 400 bucks. Good luck!
