My 64 had a 350 put in it. It still has the stock (3.08) gears and rearend. I dont think that the stock rear end is letting me use the 350 to its full potential especially, off the line where i just spin the heck out of my tires andstand still.

I want to know what i should get posi, locker, gears. To put in my rear end.

Its a 350, heavy cam, rpm intake, its putting out close to if not a little over 400 HP. I have a 14 inch rims.

ok

ok What is the car used for? Daily driving with an occasional burn out/sprint? Street/Strip? Strip only? Gears depend on it's usage and motor's combo. It's be usless to throw in some 4.11s or shorter gears in a bone stock 350 (just an example) You say heavy cam, but, what are the specs? What stall converter are you using? If the cam's lift is around .450" or smaller, I'd say stick with some 3.55s and maybe a good rebuilt GM posi. If cam is closer to .500" or even bigger, along with compression at least 9.5:1 or higher, you can put some 3.73s or 4.11s. Also, you gotta factor in your tire/rim size. The smaller the tire, the numerically higher your gear becomes, and visa-versa...the taller the tire the lower numerically your gears become. If it's a street strip car, 3.73s are pretty much the universal gears to go with...if you're like me and don't care about revving up there on the freeway, you can go with some 4.11s with some 28" tall tires out back. That's how I have my daily driver '71 set up. Good luck with you decision. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

How do you know that it's close to 400hp? And if it is so, where is it at? Crank? Rear wheels? As for getting both tires to turn, if you've got the money you can always go with Auburn, Eaton, or Powertrax.
