Hi there,
It would be nice to get your input what cam would work best with my combo? I have been looking at the Comp cams XE 268 or 274 flat tappet hydraulic camshafts, but maybe there are better ways to go?

My Combo:

Block: Chevrolet 350 010/020 casting bored .030 over
Crankshaft: Cast GM crank
Connecting Rods: GM I beams rebuilt with ARP bolts
Pistons: Speed Pro H631CP30 flat 9.75cr
Piston Rings: Speed Pro moly rings
Camshaft: ???
Timing Chain: Comp cams true roller
Timing Cover: Stock with reinforcement for cam button
Lifters: ???
Cylinder Heads: Vortec L31 with machined valve bosses. Ready to handle up to .550 lift
64cc chambers
Intake Valves: GM stock 1.94
Exhaust Valves: GM stock 1.50
Valve Springs: ???
Rocker Arms: GM rail rockers
Intake Manifold: Edelbrock Performer RPM airgap
Carburetor: Edelbrock Performer 750 CFM
Distributor: Hei
Starter: GM Delco
Fuel: 93.75 octane pump gas

Car: Chevrolet Nova Sportcoupe 1963
Transmission: TH 350 with Raybestos clutches and shiftkit. GM stock converter (so far). Will be replaced with a 2200-2500 stall converter.
Gears: 3.23 posi Will be uppgraded to 3.73.

The car is intended for the street but also some weekend racing. Im looking for good driveability but a loopey idle wont hurt. I have not much use for vaccum except for the distributor and tranny.

Thanks for any advice.

Matt

UD272/282F10 or 12. (401A3LUN)

The bigger solids may be more than you want.
You might try a UD276/284F14. CJlandry has a comparable Crane F-278-2? cam in a vortec 350.
Does like 100mi a day. The 276/284F10 will idle around 1000rpm w/9-10" vac in a 350. No longer a jump in and drive it car. Needs warmed up a little.
Probably at least a true 2400 stall minimum.
But the 272/XXX is a better match to your ? CR.
I'm barely running 10.8 cr with my 276/284F10.

FYI Vortecs are often 62cc, not 64.
Try the 373's last with that lite car.

Thanks alot for your input Scott! I will consider your suggestions when its time to buy the "bumpstick". Really I have nothing against Comp cams or anything, but lately Ive heard that their parts aint always what the claim when it comes to quality! For example people say that you should watch out for some of their roller lifters. I dunno but Ive heard by several sources that the lifters are plain JUNK? Just what Ive heard tough...
Thanks / Matt

If you want a hydralic, run the 280/288 UD/Lun cam. Go to www.holley.com (http://www.holley.com) click on lunati on the bottom of the page, go to camshafts, then SBC, and read up on it. Its what I would run if I were you.
