I think I`m going to run a fuel cell in the 68 p/u I just bought. I`ve never used a fuel cell so can someone tell me what the difference is, besides one having foam and one doesn`t. I know the foam is suppost to help keep the fuel from sloshing around but stock gas tanks don`t use foam so do I need it? My truck will mostly bea street vehicle with some track time once I get the 454 built. I`ll crusie it around with the stock 396 for now. Thanks.
Well first of all, all oem tanks are baffled. Otherwise you would literally have fuel flowing out the filler neck on a turn. I have no experience with fuel cells, but I would imagine for a street car, you would absolutely need the foam.

I opted for the foam in my cell. Buy a metal cell. I have a plastic one and it is caving in on the top. I have seen quite a few other plastic cells doing this.

Get the foam filled cell, won't slosh around at all.I've had plastic fuel cells in 3 cars now,and none of them ever caved in.

Thanks guys. I guess I`ll get a foam filled one. I was thinking about getting one anyway but just wanted another opinion.
I would love to have a metal one but I`m going to mount it under the bed and the mounting tabs are set up to mount it inside the bed. I`ve seen a couple plactic ones cave in a little but I also know a couple guys who use them with no problems. I guess I could always get the metal one and weld new tabs on it. Thanks again.

Was that plastic cell vented? Or a cheap fuel cell? I could see the pump pulling enough fuel out to create a slight vacuum that would pull the top in if it wasn't vented. I have a Harwood and have not seen any cell collapse.
Get the foam filled.
