If you had 2 350ci motors with the same cam, but one was built for torque, and the other was built for horsepower. Which of the motors would be louder? Considering exausht and everything the same. Also if you had a 350ci and a sb400ci with the same hp/tq would the extra 50 ci change the sound?

i would think the one built for hp would be louder due to the larger cam???

how do you build them with the same displacement and the same cam to do different things? Do you mean different heads and bore stroke ratio?

I guess what i was trying to say is a motor with more torque going to be generaly louder than a motor built for horsepower

As far as the two 350's, it's hard to tell. If they had the same cam, it would be hard to build one for torque and one for HP, even if one was a standard 350 and the other a 400block/3.25 crank, the fact that they displace the same amount would lean towards having similar characteristics when using the same CAM. Now, the heads/manifold/headers would make a difference. 1.94/1.5 for torque, 2.02/1.6 for HP, etc.
The 400ci Vs 350ci for same HP/TQ at the same or similar RPMs, the 350 would likely be louder or at least sound more radical as it would take a smaller/milder/tamer cam to make the same HP/TQ in the 400, a long with a much tamer build approach.

The engine that builds the best cylinder pressure will be louder.
