The white 8 tooth drive gear was the factory choice with a 3.31:1. There is a 7, 8, and 9 tooth nylon drive available to set-up for your future plans down the road.

You need he lrg DRIVER 8 tooth gear that goes on the output shaft and the 20 (forgot color) or 21 tooth (red) smaller DRIVEN gear .

Depending on what literature you look at they rec 20 or 21 tooth gear, most of the time i have seen 3:31 gear with muncie and stock size rims/tires (25.5"-26" tall) using the red 21 tooth driven gear.

BTW,it makes no difference if its an m20/21/22 because the final drive ratio is the same for all 3 types of trans.

Additionally, if you have the plastic 8teeth drive gear on the tail shaft---------------------------THROW IT IN THE TRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Replace it with a metal, press-on drive gear. There are TWO metal, 8teeth gears. They are 1.76in and 1.84in diameter. You need the larger, 1.84in diameter gear.

The 20teeth plastic side gear is blue, the 21 teeth gear is red. The 19teeth gear is natural.

There is also a 7 tooth metal gear made by AutoGear in the 1.84 od that gives you a little more wiggle room.

Pastic gears are good for the trash, like Tom said.

I agree with Tom and Wally, always use a steel speedo drive gear in a Muncie.
