: Heavy Chevy Rescued...

I wanted to post a pic of my latest venture.. This was found through a friend of a friend that new of a “Chevelle” sitting in a field.. Well I got in touch with them, they entertained the option to sell and sent some pictures.

First thing I noticed was the Hood and wheels with lack of emblems and it instantly struck my interest.. Long story short with the help of this site searches and Mr. Jim Hudgins for all his help. It indeed is a Heavy Chevy.. Even the original hood pin holes are in the radiator support and the factory screws for the cables are there along with the door panels.

Car breaks down as an 13437 Arlington - 03A build, Lime Green /Green interior Car with A/C, PS, PDB… In the glove box was the protecto plate, copy original title and owners manual/envelope from Abrahams Chevrolet in Miami..

Pushed it up on the trailer, then went right to a car wash to pressure clean all the years of scum and algae off of it..

Unfortunately the car was repainted and the interior was dyed back and it shows.. They glued carpet to the original green vinyl mat and recovered the seats right over the original material seats. NOM small block that was not running, added new cap, points, rotor, plugs, wires, and a little carb cleaner and fired right up…. Runs like a champ.

It has some rough spots especially in the passenger floors and trunk but I couldn’t pass it up and let it sit there another 10 years and rot.. I am going to be busy for a the next few weeks, then I will go searching for the build sheet ect..

Dave

Nice find! Bring it back to original! Lime Green/green HC, did it have black stripes? Hope you can get that carpet up w/o messing up the green floor. Amazing how these cars fire right up after sitting that long - like to see that happen w/ a new car, 20 years from now.

I did mine in '90 - everybody thought I came up with it! They never made that, why did you name it Heavy Chevy, should have made it a SS, had to explain more than once how it was a real option. Anyway, check on TC about the repo stripe kits for these, the front part of the stripe is wrong and I dont know if anyone is making a correct kit yet. I bought mine in '90 and don't know what happened between then and now.

Great find! Good to know there are still a few gems out there to be found. So glad you rescued it before it rotted away to being nothing useful.

Nice!:cool:I like it! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you have to give for it? I'm always curious about what kind of deals people are able to find. I too think it would look great in the original color with black HC stripes. I would love to see some more pictures.

Thanks guys.. I will try and post more pics but I am running out of space.. There are pieces of the decals still inside the fender jambs but they have been painted over and I haven't been able to get the paint off.. I can tell you that I can still peel some off and the backing of the decal is black.. So I assume the factory stripes were black.. I don't think if they were white, the back would be black... Am I making sense?? It may be a while before I get to tearing into the Heavy.. I need to finish my 68 or I'll never make it to a Chevelleabration!

From what I understand almost all HC's had black stripes. Real dark colors (black, drk. blue/brown) would get white stripes. So I would think yours def. should have black.

I have a 71 Heavy Chevy that someone tried to turn into a SS ...but I am returning to original. It is Nevada Silver with black strips. They painted it black though.....it is the straightest car I have ever seen.

I'm pretty sure that they all got black stripes and decals. Hopefully someone here can tell us for sure.
