1. Can it be replaced without pulling the instrument panel?

2. What is the easiest way to advance the mileage from 0 to 800 miles?

Opps.

It's a 70.

Because of the way the speedometer is mounted you would have to remove the whole gauge pod. It can be done without removing the dash, I have done it, but it's not easy.

why are you concerned about an 800 mile discrepancy?

that is the mileage since the engine was rebuilt. It would be nice to keep it accurate, but it's not a big deal.

You didn't say whether you have a SS dash or a sweep dash and I'm only familiar with the SS version but I suspect that they both mount in the same way.

Here's a tip that a fellow TCer posted a while back and if I could remember his name I would surely give him credit. I haven't tried it myself but it sounds like a good idea to simplify getting at stuff behind the dash without pulling the entire dash out or becoming a contortionist while getting at stuff while the dash is still in place.

Substitute the two dash-to-cowl bolts that are located at the extreme top left hand and top right hand corners of the dash with really long bolts like carriage bolts of the same thread size. After dropping your steering column and removing/disconnecting everything that has to be, you can slide the dash assembly towards you on the substitute bolts to gain better access to what's behind it.

One word of caution. If you have a stock radio, those puppies are really heavy. I'd think about pulling the radio before hand or at least figure out a way to support the dash in the middle while you are working. Between the radio cut out and the heater/ac control/ac vent cut outs, there's not a whole heck of a lot of meat right there in the middle of the dash.

Good luck
