Have anyone had this problem lights only work with bright light switch on? The only time my front headlights come on is if I push the bright light switch, and then all four lights come on. If I turn bright lights off then I have no head lights at all. (rear lights work as normal). lights in the dash work normal with headlamp switch on but no head lamps (normal 2 driving lights) only park lamps and tail lights. any suggestions?

Sounds like the high/low switch is fried, 2 screws hold it to the floor and a plug in the side, nothing to it.

Also could be a lack of ground, had the same issue with my 67 and it turned out that the ground had come loose for the low beams.

The most common problem would be burned-out low beam filaments in the outside headlights. Yeah, they'd have to BOTH be bad...but not at all unheard-of in part 'cause the low-beams are used more than the high beams.

Easy test: Throw a test light or voltmeter on the headlight connectors. There are three wires in the connector. One will be powered in low-beam position, another will be powered in high-beam position, and one will be ground which is shared by the two filaments. Since it works in high beam, the ground must be OK.

If you have power at the connector in low-beam position--the headlight is fried.
No power in low-beam position--"probably" the dimmer switch or switch connections, but broken wires or other oddball stuff is possible.

You might want to check your wiring harness plug at the firewall. Check to see if the lower side of the plug is pushed in all the way and locked. This is usually the problem when you only have high beams.

Might not want to ignore this dimmer switch thing.
I actually had a fire start on the floor, because of that thing.
2am in a Calif. desert @ 80mph---went to brights, a fire started on the floor, and then all headlamps went out.

I had to hardwire my lights (bypassing the dimmer) to get to Vegas that night

:mad:i pulled in and parked one nite for about 20-30minutes, i had been using the low beams, when i go to leave no low beams.
i had power at/from the headlight dimmer switch.
no power at the headlight socket.
had power coming out of the firewall going into the harness.
:(turned out to be a break in the wire inside the harness between the firewall and the headlight socket.
:thumbsup:spliced a new section of wire in and wham lights are working again.:D
