Im curious to know whats involved in installing cruise control. Is there another factory car out there that one could easily adapt and modify to work on a chevelle? I know it can be done obviously but if there is a late 70's nova or monte carlo that used cruz, could that be adapted easily? I drive on the freeway 40 miles round trip and sometimes drive to the track. I'd love the cruz control my corvette has and would love the simple benefits.

Thanks for any help or comments.:D

When I bought my 71 Elco, it had a aftermarket cruise control. Works pertty good, looks like it did not take to much work to do. Small switch and box under dash. Looks like a sensor on the drive shaft, that controls the speed.

Aftermarket Cruise control is available and work well, some cost less than $100 to over $200.

I adapted cruise control from a '83 Caprice classic. An easy weekend project. From a donor car get the speedometer cable from trans to cruise controller, cruise controller, and speedometer cable to speedometer. Then take out turn signal indacator with the cruise switches to the cruise controller. Then you will need the vacuum hoses and diaphram which pulls on carburetor control. The cost for one from a junk yard, little to nothing.

I put in a cruise control in my first Chevelle. I was cruising down the highway and hit the switch. It started to accelerate out of control. I was weaving in and out of traffic. 90...100....120...160... I threw it in reverse until the transmission grinded out, then it started to accelerate again...100...120...180..200. I drove up one of those embankments for trucks to drive onto if their brakes go out. I ended up just jumping off the end and flying through the air for about 100 yards. Then I landed and the cruise control disengaged and I did a big power slide to stop. Only a few scratches that buffed out. Replaced the tranny too on the scene. Be careful with those cruise controls...some times they don't work right.
