: Diff between 781 & 290 heads
gspan1830 Jan 12th, 04, 1:48 PM Head #'s are D7 76 - 336781 GM 10T & D19 72 - 6272292 GM 11T.
Mortec shows the following but doesn't give specs on the 292 head. Does anyone know what the diff would be between it and the 781 head??
I found these on ebay within driving distance and thought it would be worth checking into.
336781.....73-85...oval...OPEN...454, 118cc chamber, 256/114cc ports
6272292....70-78...oval...OPEN...402, 454
Purs Jan 12th, 04, 5:37 PM I don't have any hard info for you but my machine shop guy said he did some 6272292 heads awhile back and thay they were very similar to 781's except they were closer to 110cc. Interesting. I have a set that I was going to go through on my 408 but I decided that I needed more compression so I went with some closed chambered heads. If you find some good info let us know.

gatewayracer Jan 13th, 04, 12:09 AM The 292 head is very similar to the 781 and 049 head. The difference being the chamber shape! Who ever said they are 110 CC is dead wrong.
They are about 126cc if they haven't been milled. The shape of the chamber is not as pronounced on the Non spark plug side of the chamber and because of that they may breath a little better but will have less compression (in stock form).
Still a good head, and worth using if you get them for the right price.
gspan1830 Jan 13th, 04, 8:42 AM Thanks for the link and the info.
Think i'll keep my eye out for a matched pair.
jasondunn Oct 20th, 07, 5:43 AM There is a set of these on e bay now for 20 bucks in Ohio. Jay
Johnny O Oct 20th, 07, 8:19 AM I did some investigation, and found out about the same info as above. A friend was cleaning out his garage last year, and had a tall deck 427, complete but apart. He sold it just to get it out of his way, and I brought it home. I only wanted the block, but he said no, I had to take the heads as well, and all the accs....I figured, OK, I'll just junk the rest of the stuff except for the block and crank. Well, the heads turned out to be 292's, and not the peanut port that I was expecting. So, Im feeling I got an even better deal!! Good heads for sure.
ratuned Oct 20th, 07, 9:59 AM i have never cc'd a set but have used a couple of sets. most places list them at 113cc. i would GUESS they might run about 116-117 cc. mike
pdq67 Oct 20th, 07, 10:06 AM They aren't the open chambered smog heads w/ the squared off quench flat over by the exhaust valves, are they??
Good heads and may run from 112/113 to 122 or so, therefore you HAVE to CC them to know for sure!!
