This a factory MUNCIE shifter (un-modified) arm bolted to an adaptor for a Hurst Comp Plus. I believe it to be a Chevelle unit due to the unique bends.

For some reason, Hurst shifters were not avaliable on Chevrolets, just factory MUNCIE shifters that.... sucked. Almost everyone switched over toa Hurst the first chance they got.

I'm thinkin' you were going to put a link to a picture?

Muncie handles are not rare. Ones in perfect original condition are very rare. As much as everyone hates the original shifters and linkage they look great and bring big money if all original.

Aftermarket Hurst shifters are not rare at all.

That's a bucket seat shift handle. What Floyd said is true. Missed shifts probably lead to the demise of many an L78 engine. Our Chevelle had the curved bench seat version. I too switched to a Hurst Competition Plus at the first opportunity. On our 396 car I have the Hurst box with the Muncie handle adapted to it. A guy I worked with gave me the handle. Looks correct but works. If your car is going to be a museum piece, I guess it doesn't matter that the shifter doesn't work very well.

I'm definately going to drive the car regularly and drive it like it was 1969 all over gain!. I've only seen MUNCIE handles on trailer queens. That's why I was wondering just how rare they are. Here's the shifter it's attched to:

Ground-up is currently offering reproduction Muncie handles on Hurst Shifters.

I'm running one myself.

Whenever yours was produced, obviously it caught on, as it's a Good idea.

Reproduction Muncie shifter handles are available from several aftermarket vendors, including our sponsor. You may still have to modify them to fit the Hurst gate however. FWIW, you also have your choice of several "correct" looking shifter balls for various model years.

I have an original factory Muncie handle that I had rechromed, mated to the Hurst shifter in my 68SS. Looks great, but it's anything but a trailer queen.

They don't show the attachment area too well and they don't look exactly like mine.

They aren't exactly like yours.. The Repro's bolt into a tab from the side. Yours has a tab bent at 45 degrees and bolted from the top.

Attaching points on both are hidden by the Rubber seal.

They likely don't sell the mis-matched Shifter seperately as it's likely the Standard Hurst Shifter is modified to accept it as well.
