I was wondering if chevrolet changed the shade of orange used on engine components over the years. I am having a 1968 327 rebuilt for a 1968 Camaro and when I stopped by the shop where the work is being done they had a freshly painted block there and to me it does not look right. I have 1970 Camaro SS amd 1970 Chevelle and both have orginal motors that have never been removed and they are almost a burnt red look opposed to bright orange. The guy told me that chevy has always used the same shade of orange but when I look at my original engines that are not nearly as bright of shade. He said that they probably look different because of the curing process and all of the heat over the years. I am going for an original restoration and do not want a block that looks like a deer hunting jacket so any insight on this issue would be appreciated. He is supposed to paint my block on Thursday and said he would use any paint that I wanted, but as far as he knows there is only one shade of chevy orange.

there is only one chevy orange, but there is the dark color orange and the correct color orange is like what is on Vinny's 572 on here, the correct orange is a hint lighter than most

Yes, one color, chevy orange but i have seen two different shades. I paint all my engines black, if a customer does not want the engine black i have him buy the paint

DupliColor sells 2 different Chevy engine oranges. One is orange, the other is a darker red-orange. I bought some of the lighter orange by mistake, definately didn't look right to me. Had to repaint the 454 with the red-orange, DupliColor # DE-1607 I believe.
Attached is pic of the 396, also painted with the DE-1607.

The DE-1607 is what I was expecting. I think they are using the DE-1620 with ceramic resins for better heat disposition because they did mention that they were using the one with better heat resistance. To me the DE-1607 looks closer to my original engines is that the "correct" one?
